Taking the Jeep out to Black Point Wildlife Drive

From black water to black point. Saturday we ventured out to an area that we have never been. Wildlife drives give a very stock friendly experience for any vehicle. However being able to take your doors off and lower your top makes it way better. The Merritt Island wildlife area has a seven mile gravel road. The road travels through mangrove swamps on Dykes originally made for mosquito management. During the summer months the flowers along the road are incredible, from the dune flowers to the Indian blankets you will have ample opportunities to take beautiful flower pictures. By the time we arrived it was a bit hotter than we anticipated and the wildlife was mostly finding places to cool off.
This would probably be even better during late fall when the birthing season kicks in full. Today was a fee free day normally there is a charge to take the drive. There are areas that you can get out and hike including areas with blinds that are set up to observe the birds.
The morning started out without many plans, but we soon found our selfs heading down nova Road east of Saint cloud. We headed to Highway one at Cocoa and rode it all the way up to Titusville. Where we turned to cross the bridge to go toward the wildlife drive. we stopped to talk to a fellow Jeep owner who had a cool YJ with a military theme.
From there we headed to Steve's Family Diner on hwy 1 2900 S. Washington Ave. in Titusville. I had a great Chili burger and Randi had a 10 oz steak. MMM MMM Good.
Things to know:
Easy drive, intact it’s car friendly.
Better in the morning.
It has bathrooms.
There are points of interest and a pamphlet explaining the area.
There are places to park and walk.
There is normally a fee so have some cash.
There is a welcome center just down the main road.
Rocket launches can effect hours.
There is a good dinner in Titusville called Steve’s Diner - get the steak.
It’s around an hour from Orlando.
Alternate things to do.
The beach is near.
Kennedy is near.
Fishing in the Indian river.
Take a drive on New Smyrna Beach.

Question is Black Point Wildlife drive the same as Merritt Island wildlife refuge ? Thanks for the video about Tosohatchee. Because of your video we decided to take a day trip there. We had a great time.

The wildlife refuge is the whole area, the drive is just a small portion. There are many places to hike and visit in the area. Glad you enjoyed it.

Yes it was. A bonus is its open on most days. They do close it on launch days... sometimes. We just were at Apopka on Fathers day.

Wow that was beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Everything's on the East Coast it seems. I would love to go to some of these trails but would have to do an over night if I do.
