You could book the train tickets online at the IRCTC platform. It is hassle free. Booking tickets at the railway reservation counter is a tedious and time consuming affair.

You should try Vande Bharat train. We did that from Kollam to Kochi. It was worth it. You can use thirdparty agents to book online.
