TAKING THE TRAIN IN MEXICO CITY | Eileen Aldis

Taking the subway is the most affordable way to get around Mexico City. I also found it was usually the fastest! I received a lot of questions about the metro in CDMX after posting this vlog: bit.ly/2nBRhaZ. I wanted to share my personal experience, tips and tricks, and advice for how to ride the train for only 5 pesos! I rode the subway all over the city and highly recommend it as your main form of transportation there. I hope this is helpful! Make sure you stick around for the outtake at the end of the video haha! :)

Wow - I wish this had been posted before our recent trip! Many thanks.I loved the subway in CDMX - despite the crowding! We had Uber - but never bothered using it - the subway was fast and they had long trains with big cars (at least, bigger than our tiny Skytrain cars in Vancouver). We took the Metrobus to Condesa - it was even more crowded than the subway (and you don't get that satisfying feeling of travelling fast).One tip: if you don't have a Metrocard, buy your return ticket at the booth when you purchase your initial trip - so if there is a big line when you are returning, you are already good to go. This helped us dodge a long line up at Autobus del Norte on our way back from Teotihuacan.Anther tip: the Metrocard machines do not give change - it will load the card with whatever amount you feed into the machine. So don't put in a $100 peso note unless you plan to take a lot of rides (100 pesos will get you 20 trips at $5 pesos per ride on the subway and 16 trips at $6 pesos per ride on the metrobus). Enjoy!

I am from Mexico City but I love the skytrain! Maybe it's a little small and it can get very crowded too, but it's super clean and very practical to use, I love the Canada line!

Hi Eileen. Congratulations for your channel, very informative videos. I’m just adding a note. The individual paper ticket is not available and is not accepted on all the metro stations, especially in the newer lines. I recommend buying the metrocard instead. For only extras US$0.50, you can keep it as souvenir or just give it away when you are done with it.

You don't need a dedicated app to see the subway map, you can use Google Maps, enter the address you want to go, then tap the blue navigation icon, select the train icon and Google will tell you what routes are available in the public transport system.

Hi Jose! Thanks - I hope it's helpful for your upcoming trip! The furthest I took the train personally was probably to (actually on the way back from) Xochimilco. Getting a boat ride there is a fun way to spend the day. You can also take the subway to Coyoacán which is a lovely part of the city to spend time wandering around. I didn't use the train for any day trips outside of Mexico City. For those I took buses and used the train within CDMX.

Hi Eleen, thank you to show how the sistem is, in that is. Safe, the only problem is rush hours. In the morning from 7: 00 to 10:00 and the evening from 5:00 to 9:00 pm. Best time to enjoy the orange sworm, is between 11:00am and 3:00 pm. And It's still sheap. Enjoy Our city.

The reason I made that comment is because a lot of us go through a culture shock eventually, when spending time in a foreign country. Eventually someone makes a derogatory remark (usually out of ignorance), and that may put and end to the honeymoon. I've gone through that experience a lot. But you realize you're are going to find that type of attitude anywhere you go. We learned the hard way last February, that if you don't stand near the exit doors, more than likely you won't be able to get past anyone to exit the car at the stop you want because new passengers are coming aboard as fast as old passengers are exiting! And yes, the maps with stops near the ceilings in the middle of the cars are difficult to read from a distance, so make sure you count your stops in advance. Of course women and minors have an easier time with their own cars :)

Hey Gia! Good question! I didn't notice a day or week pass but wasn't looking as we just recharged our metro cards all the time instead. I checked this website and it doesn't mention it: mexicometro.org/about/fares/ Perhaps because the fare is so affordable they don't offer passes? But I'm not sure! I believe trains run until midnight but best to double check :)

Yeah the Metro is fantastic except for the lines A and B because both of them run into the State of México which is the principal neighbor of México City, and is a very dangerous place full of hoods with street gangs.

Most people misinterpret and think is awful the mexico city metro has separate cars for women. Unlike most countries ninbthe middle east that do his to segregate women from men in mexico that's not the reason. Women themselves asked to have their own section due to the fact that most women specially the ones traveling alone were constantly harrased by men.

Si se les hace caro entonces dejenme decirles que no saben nada aun, cuando vayan al metro de Tokyo Japon sabran lo que es caro, el boleto regular en Tokyo esta a 170 Yenes (que son casi $30 pesos mexicanos) y solo te cubre para unas 2-3 estaciones, ya que si vas mas lejos el boleto va aumentando su costo, saludos desde Monterrey amigos.
