@PhantomPhoton

@@shlokshah5379 - Do you have any links to materials showing that the magnets on hall effect sensors weaken over time? I'm very interested as I understood that Texas Instruments resolved the issue with sensor drift due to equipment age a number of years ago, and that in devices like consumer electronics this wasn't really a concern in any case (in industrial settings, a sensor may be exposed to thousands of activations per minute 24/7, while home electronics are put under far less demanding loads).

@@PhantomPhoton eta prime touched a bit on this I think but not in any depth I fear. He kinda just said that the magnets can go weak and start showing wrong inputs or start to drift if one is weaker than the other. Unless these use electro magnets this is a consern to me but not a big one in any kind as it takes ages to lose magnetism on metal magnets today.

I prefer symmetrical devices but liked the gradient from the top. Not my colorway but imagine a black device with orange-purple (sunset/sunrise) gradient. That'd be nice. Edit: and maybe custom colors/LEDs for the sticks. I hate Apple so white device with light blue just doesn't feel right. Orange would look so much better (especially with a dark shell). uh what? FPS for those games is above the decks consistently. How is the deck better? The steam deck's endless delays are making it less and less competitive against smaller niche handhelds - both in terms of price and performance. Once Zen 4 mobile is out, it will become genuinely bad value - and most people are still waiting for their reservations to come through! Really, the deck is another example of Valve loosing interest and letting a brilliant project fizzle out and rot. RDNA 2 would have been game changing in a handheld if the deck wasn't delayed to death - but even current Zen 3+ Vega graphics have caught upto the dated implementation of RDNA 2, plus the zen 2 CPU is a bottleneck for many (though not all) games. By the time it becomes widely available, Zen 4 mobile (when its released) will mean that even for its low price, the deck will be bad value against current hardware.

I'm very interested to see how well the screen performs for HDR games. Could you take a look? Windows 11 HDR needs to be enabled. (Note that SteamOS does not support HDR. Recent versions of Android do, but I don't think there are Android games with HDR, so it's really just for videos.)

@@HamsterXFiles But it's OLED, so even with low brightness you can get very good contrast. Look, the answer might be "don't buy this expecting HDR", but it's still worth looking at, because it's the first handheld EVER that can do HDR gaming.
@seouljah760
@seouljah760 2 жыл бұрын
Like what the other ppl said, 350 nits wouldn't make a difference. But OLED inherently has better contrast. Blacks are darker without washing out brighter parts of the screen. AMOLED is much better at this. OLED in general does not have backlights. Most TVs/monitors have a backlight grid, the more lights per row/column, the better the localized brightening/dimming. Cheap TVs might have 12 while better ones might have 24+. You can't really do this on small screens. That's all part of the HDR experience. I doubt HDR would make much difference here, and OLED doesn't really benefit.

Looks good, but... Pre-ordering something without a ryzen 6800 now, no way. 350 nits for brightness is not enough, should be 400. The screen is too small for me but some people like smaller screens so why not. Resolution is too much for that screen size, HD would have been better, which would have improved performance and battery life. I know that you can lower it, but if it is not native, it will be blurry. Not a great device in my opinion.

Honestly 5560U is fine, but people are conditioned to move on so fast that they dismiss it, even though 5560U only just came out in 2021. It's still perfectly fine, but because it's not the latest and greatest (6800U), people discredit it completely. They don't consider that they're paying a lot less for a reason. It's a pocket sized machine that starts at 600 bucks, throws in an OLED screen, and still plays AAA games well enough. That's an amazing value.
@steamdeckers4405

@@steamdeckers4405 It's just a slice of time you're paying for, and to have the very best thing out in the PC world is a very thin slice of time. AMD is already gearing up to roll out their 7000 series cards for next year, and already I'm seeing people say that 6800U isn't enough. It's silly, and these people are just setting themselves up to either wait forever, or have major buyers remorse in half a year. Heck, 4800U still feels pretty new to me. I see this little unit as a pocket sized machine meant to be a companion piece to my main rig, personally, I think 5560U is just fine, especially for the display you're getting, but that's just me.
@johnmcashill9919
@johnmcashill9919 2 жыл бұрын
@@bluemidnight5926 5560U doesn't play AAA games properly. Playing AAA games at low with 25 fps is not good. And you could say it is fine by buying it today to get it within a week. But that's a pre-sale you don't know when you will get it. So it is way better to buy a steamdeck, or go on a pre-sale for a handled using a 6800U, or buy a onexplayer you get next week.

@bluemidnight5926
@bluemidnight5926 2 жыл бұрын
The thing is, they can only make OLED with whatever panels exist that can be bought in readily available mass. 5.5 Inch screens have been in many OLED phones, which are readily available from panel retailers, so that's what they bought to use in the Ayaneo Air. If the bigger units don't have OLED, it's because there are no panel manufacturers that make them. They theoretically could use the Switch's OLED screens, but I'm pretty sure Nintendo contracted those for their own specific use in their devices, plus those only go up to 720p. The screens the bigger Ayaneo devices use have bigger displays and output at higher resolutions, and as of right now, there just aren't any panel manufacturers that make those in an OLED flavor. I suppose Ayaneo could contract a manufacturer to make OLED panels just for their devices, but that's a cost that a small company like them can't afford to do. It might be quite a while till you see any of their bigger devices sporting OLED screens.

Looks like a solid device though. I’m glad it’s not my taste though because I got the Aya Neo Pro, then Ayn Odin Pro, and then Steam Deck. I am so glad that some of these devices are getting so good. Still expensive (with my current income my first choice at this price point will always be a laptop), but good - can play pretty much any up to date game, something you wouldn't expect from the first GPD Win few years ago. For now, I have all my needs covered (Razer Raiju Mobile + Snap 870 phone for portable emulation, mid range gaming laptop as a PC), but I can see myself ditching all that for an x86 handheld in the future - if they can run 720p low now, at some point 1080p mid wil be possible - and this looks decent even on a 4k TV. I guess this question was asked multiple times now, but will you review STEAM Deck?
