Erik is like his mother, when they love they fall deeply. Can’t even function correctly without their special love one.

WOW hard to believe Burt Lancaster was neary 80 when he did this role, he looks good for his age.

I guess this is one case where you can truly blame the parents for everything. Poor Erik.

Oh my gosh. This is the saddest story I've ever heard! I mean, not that it wasn't the same kind of story in the other movie, but having it told by the father was just heart breaking! I like how they tell the story in this movie better. And I like the singers better too.... VERY talented :-) Thank you so so SO much for posting this!!!

Erik got his genius from his mother apparently because his dad's like "hum I'm just gonna keep fishing while I watch my lover walk towards the water obviously depressed, I'm sure she won't kill herself"....not to mention the fact that he put an innocent girl in his messed up situation by lying......don't screw unless you know you can take care of the kid....and then he has the gall to act shocked that she wanted to abort and not live in poverty (pregnant women couldn't get jobs then)

WOW did that poison act fast!
@catherineehlers81153 жыл бұрын
Makes no sense. I don’t think Arthur Kopit did his research about pregnancy and fetal development. No way would a poison drunk right before a birth destroy a baby’s face. If she had drunk it very early in the pregnancy, when the face would be undeveloped-now THAT would be believable.

The young Carriere looks like Peter Scolari. Since it is a flashback he doesn't speak, since it would not be the same voice.

@miep8675 um no the man was what made her pregnant hon, potions don't do that ;) but the potion, if it was an abortion potion like it probably was, could have cause major birth defects etc.

@113-M12 жыл бұрын
what I was really asking was why was she hiding in the opera house.
@miep867514 жыл бұрын
@PinkCharmander It was actually that thing she drank from the gypsy, which made her pregnant.
@giannapatsy6986 жыл бұрын
tanzderesmeralda No, she was already pregnant. I apologize for correcting you.
and I answered with a question lol. but seriously she probably didn't have a lot of money at the time or there was really no where else go to where no one else will discover the child

Sooo...why can the most awesome and super famous opera singer in Paris not go to a hospital again?? Or, you know, rent a crappy room after having an ugly baby? Was this really the FIRST deformed baby EVER?? The entire conceit of this version, making his parents loving and then having to figure out some other way of making him super angsty and effed up, just does not work...it stretches to some pretty ridiculous plot twists in order to get there, and in the end, the pathos is just not the same.

the flashback thing is done very badly ... the only interesting part is they kept young Gerard silent - he doesn't say a word (and it didn't help it looked like a young Jack Nicholson :D)
@catherineehlers81153 жыл бұрын
That meant they could pay the guy less who played young Gerard as he didn’t have a speaking part. I don’t know if the fellow was even named in the credits.

@@catherineehlers8115 , well, at least he had the chance to work with Burt Lancaster, Charles Dance & some good French actors, like Cassel ..that would sweeten the bitterness of anonimity, right? (:o?

Yes.

0:50 I'm sorry but... who does that!? And humans float!... What a horrible father DX I wonder if his mother's suicide attempts are what caused him to get deformed... It's weird that she loved him despite trying to kill him and herself multiple times.
