I'm 75 and prefer shoveling to noisy machines that break down when you need them most. I shovel to the wood pile, to the car, and make other paths around the cabin. It can be challenging when the snow is heavy and deep, but I pace myself and rest often.

If you have five sons shoveling is not too bad ,,but over 60 and one man operation I love my tractor ! In all seasons snow , logging , animal bedding, building projects. Modern context require modern machines . The more primitive you live the less machines is also a way to see the discussion. Each man must make his own choice based on skills and finances,,,awesome filming segments! In the intro . Shalom

Sometimes we need material things to make life a little easier. We only have 4 inches of snow here in Northern Wisconsin we should have a lot more than that as the crops need cover so they won't freeze out. So glad to see Evar out having so much fun 💞

It will fix this problem by straightening the propellers as much as possible. To do this you would have to dismantle the propeller and it will be best for you to find someone who has a flame torch to heat it up for to be straightened. Good luck, with whatever decision you make.

😊 Bravo 👏Yes. With such a life, there is a lot of physical work. But it is also health. You are always in the fresh air. You have grown many of your own products. You know what you feed your animals and birds. And it is better than in cities.. With their noise. Incomprehensible products in beautiful packaging. With dirty air. You have less stress. You are raising a healthy and cheerful boy. You are not in a hurry anywhere. Even your faces are calmer and more contented than those of city dwellers. Therefore, respect to you. We are happy for you. And we always enjoy watching your videos. It is as if we are immersed in another world. And we live in Paris. There was snow for 1 day. The whole winter was rain or ice and mud. So rejoice. Everything is known in comparison. Thank you. Good luck. May the Lord bless you ...🎉

Hello Tove, Mathias & Ivar; Canadian here, so no stranger to 3 or more days of snow. I don't think there is an either/or, black or white issue with how to handle snow. You do whatever works for you, your conditions, your health, the size of your property , etc. . I, like you, love to shovel areas that aren't easily accessible by machine, or just because it won't take long to look after. (There is a real beauty in doing this...meditative, I would say.) The larger swaths of trails, and clearing for sheep, driving, etc., would be another thing. I've shovelled snow all my life, and don't mind it, but I am one human against enormous elements...where possible, use what is necessary. This way, you have time to feed your chickens, sheep, feed yourselves, and let's not forget, to enjoy books, music, each other, and all the other simple pleasures of life. You have nothing to prove, do as much or as little as you feel comfortable with, and most of all, enjoy your life. Love to all of you!

We got a day and half of freezing rain and then about 7 inches of snow on top the next day. It has been harder digging out than when we have had 23 inches in the past. It is always wonderful to see you tackling the chores and taking care of the animals!❤ Ivar is growing up!❤

It is great to watch someone else work. 😂 I was born and live in a tropical climate so I know nothing about removing snow. I’m 74 years old and as I hate the cold I have never wanted to go and even holiday in the snow. It’s nice to look at though but having to wear all that clothing and still feel the cold I’m glad I have never had to contend with that type of climate. I am sitting in my house in shorts and a tshirt with the fan blowing on me at the moment. I happy with where I live and I’m glad to watch you working and playing in the snow.

May I suggest that you try fixing your snowblower in the summer!!! Interesting... me in Québec, Canada, I'm expecting after Sunday to have super freezing temperature (-20C day & -27 C night in Montréal "city" so much colder in the countryside) while your temperature will rise... The polar vortex is playing seesaw between America and Europe!!!!🤪 I suggest that both solutions are good... at adequate moments! When you see that there will be several days of heavy snow and then sun for a while, do the minimum with shovel and the big machine at the end... it is worth only if it does not know heavily afterwards... Have to check the weather media closely for that. Little snow, little shovel big snow big machine... You are so far that you need a big one for "emergencies" but you can minimize the use. I admire your courage and determination as a family! 👌🙏💖 ps Tuva, you are perfectly right!!! easier to see than do 🤪😅

I do feel that if the blades in the snowblower were straight then you'd be able to use both sides. I imagine that whoever had it before you modified it to suit their needs. Probably after hitting some rocks too :-) As someone who has injured their back doing tree care, I think it is essential to think about having those tools to make you life a little easier before you really need them. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE to shovel snow and chop wood, but I wish I would have brought in some tools to help me with those tasks before I couldn't do either of them. I'm so excited to see you all in the new house! Seeing the scaffolding set up and all of the windows/door sealed shows me how much of a different stage you are from last year. I hope that the universe is kind to you this year and allows many days to see your projects become completed.Lots of love to you all. Seeing your videos has always put a smile on my face.

Small shovelled paths, with high sides give you something to balance your self against if you slip. Machine clearing is labour saving after roof clearing or continuous (snow) falls. Love and best wishes, take care, I thought it was a great episode.

Hi I love so much to see your simple way of living up there in the North and understand the dilemma about machines. I live in a forest in the South of France and we have some machines to upkeep here but I realize also the noise pollution they make as well as their upkeep…it is a fine balance, but yes they do help incredibly when you have a lot of work to do. I am happy to have discovered your channel recently and wish your family good wishes and blessings, enjoy all of that snow, we hardly get any where I live but we are not far from the mountains. Still, blow a little down here if you can, I love that fairytale white landscape ❤️ Love from the South of France Katrina

Tools are a mixed blessing. They are great when designed properly, working well and fully functional; there is always some upkeep or maintenance required. If there are motors and gears involved, complications tend to arise. My personal preference is to utilize the right tool for the specific job at hand.

@pinetree54897 сағат бұрын
Yes, the propeller should be fixed as best as possible, BUT, if it works for one side, that would not be the primary problem for the other side. I was trying to find a close up of the back of the snowblower. Obviously, the point where the snow is allowed to leave the propeller must be different for each side, but they must be equally 'efficient'(?) at throwing the snow through the chute. If that isn't proper, it could be a poor design, but that wouldn't be my first guess. I'll continue with the video and add if I can help any more. Best wishes. --- Added. At 16:28, at the lower edge of the screen, it shows the bottom entrance of that chute. It just doesn't seem to line up as it should for the snow to be thrown out at that angle. The propeller blades at that point (even without the added curvature) seem like they would be throwing the snow upwards to the top of the chute, which would be the reason for it getting packed with snow. 16:45 shows it even a bit better. I'll finish watching, but not sure if I can add any more help. Hope you understand what I'm trying to say. Best to the whole family. I'd like to buy you a new (used) one here in the states, but shipping would be a killer. 😃 Oh, see my replies also.
@pinetree54896 сағат бұрын
It's a bit stuck in my head about whether or not I'm being clear about what I'm trying to say. The point at which the snow can leave the circle of the propeller should be a straight line going out the shute. If not, it will not be thrown out efficiently and maybe not at all. I'll leave it at that.
@pinetree54894 сағат бұрын
When I look at the way in which those propeller blades are bent, they seem to be bent in the wrong direction. Is it possible that the propeller was made to go in one direction for one side and reverse for throwing the snow to the other side? I'm limited to what I can see of the machine of course.
@pinetree54892 сағат бұрын
Another reply ..... When the video went to looking into the chute, I assumed it was on the bad side. But obviously not because the auger is to the right. And the bends in the propeller blades look 'correct' for the good side. I guess I would still question the bad chute for the same direction of the propeller, unless it's possible (as asked) it has a reverse for the other side. Let us know manufacturer, date, model if you can find. OK, that's it. no more for now.

I love winter and snow, but absolutely hate shoveling snow... At our houses we have a lot of slopes, and stairs and stuff though, so a snowblower would only help to a certain extent. If you lived near a good public library you might not need or want so many books (especially novels). Reference books are another matter but the internet has a wealth of info too. I prefer living simply and am more at peace living that way. I do have a few luxuries (electric log splitter, old riding mower/tractor, newer Subaru vehicle, batt op chainsaw and pruners). In rural eastern Washington state USA there has been very little snow at under 3000 ft elevation. I haven't had to clear any paths or pay to have my driveway plowed yet. This is a first in over 30 years! As for living a minimalist lifestyle, less is more, in general. I try to buy only what I need and avoid clutter or collecting useless stuff.

It’s an interesting question about snow shovelling. It’s a good workout outside and satisfying, but hard work. May be it’s not about this or that but adding more hours/people to the task with a shovel? Convenience does come into it, even for you guys 😂 with other tools and machinery. Hard for people to judge when we don’t live it day-to-day. On the other hand why make life harder when it can be easier and quicker, right?

You should absolutely take that impeller/fan off and repair it. Not a huge job for someone with a welder and some basic tools. Look at a newer version, or try to find the original paperwork/manual online, or at the dealership. That way you can see what shape they should be. A new chute for the good side should also be easy to make. I suppose you could even make one out of wood. Your place is looking fantastic! The tractor really is a game changer. I can't imagine being without one.

good question. I live more than 20 years in the north witch of 11 years in Sweden and still remoove the snow with a simple shovel. I live in Lapland. I refuse to buy a tractor because its like you questioned, is it worth to buy this equipement because if you have not a lot of money and must rely on a old, used tractor than you get probably more work maintaining that tractor, if you cant do it yourself it costs a hell of a lot of money to let it repair. So i still shovel, and have to drive away from my property by snowmobile to reach my car 2.5 km further on the public gravel road.
