Talbot Express Motorhome. Gearbox Oil Top Up. Not Easy.

Update: The oil goes in the hole the Reversing Switch came out.
It's about time I checked the oil level in my motorhomes gearbox. The dipstick is in an awkward position on my vehicle. My arms are not long enough to access it from engine bay. So I have to jack up the front and go underneath to reach it. Several different types of dipstick were fitted so I cannot advise you regarding your vehicle. Please contact TOC Talbot Owners Club forum for more info. This is the method I use to top the oil. It's still not easy. The oil extension pipe on the new oil container is not long enough so I used an old container as a funnel.

so you showed us everything other than putting the oil in ! showing where you fill it ??

I've only 2 hands couldn't show filling . Funny I thought I mentioned you fill it through reversing switch hole. Have you read the description under video. George

@@saddad697 What 2.15 into video I say this is the best place to top up or fill oil. It's the hole where reversing switch goes into.

To be honest I don't actually know. However I have allways changed my engine oil and gearbox oil once a year. I've never done more than 10,000 miles a year in one car. Whatever cars I have owned in the past. Morris Minor, Fiat 132, Citreon Berlingo, Fiat Doblo etc etc. Talbot Express 6000 max. Mazda Bongo I will do at between 6k and 10k. And will do it around June time this year as not sure when it was done last. I don't buy the major brand oils but tend to use what local garages use. Etc. Commer brand comes to mind. Looking at the forum seems 1.9 litres of gl4 80w90 mineral is the correct oil and amount . Is this what you used To go by Post by Steve at Jk towers

Hi George. I've heard that gear oil should be above the 5th gear cog. Is that determined by the Marks on dip stick?

Hi guys. Sorry I really cannot answer that one. I have been told the 5th gear is splash lubricated but not sure. More than one type of dipstick and markings so no idea. Mine mainly guess work. George

@@MakeDoAndMend1 The gerbox dipstick on my mk1 was correctly marked with the updated 5th gear lubrication level. It might have been replaced at some point though.
