The microtonal guitar player (who used a nail file for a pick) is Tolgahan Çoğulu from Turkey. He's the inventor of the microtonal guitar that divides each fret into 9 commas used in classical Turkish music scales called "maqam"s. Like the "countless fretted" microtonal guitar, the fretless guitar was also invented by another Turkish virtuoso Erkan Oğur. And never mind the nail file thing, he is a great finger picker.

About the microtonal guitarist at 7:10: I met Tolgahan in Istanbul in 2011. He also has a Lego fretted guitar. And yes, traditional Turkish and Middle Eastern does use a lot of fine-tuned notes like that. I've seen Arabic guitarists with quarter tone frets on electric guitars and fretless acoustic guitars. Middle Eastern music in general uses melodic modes, each called a maqam; many contain quarter tones. The frets of a sitar are also movable since traditional Indian music uses tiny interval deviations, each called a shruti, and those tiny changes in pitch against a drone change the mood of a raga ever so subtly. And blues is really microtonal. Also, the Indian slide guitar is called a "Mohan veena". (I'm a prog metal composer/songwriter and bass player myself who uses a lot of microtonality and very weird time signatures in my stuff--read about irrational meter sometime.)

After playing 11 years, i wish i would have focused on rhythm guitar more than lead. I had a big bag of tricks but that was it. Looking back, i think i would of had way more fun learning a ton of songs rather than trying to perfect lightning fast solos with perfect accuracy. The "perfectionist" in me is a blessing and a curse. So much time spent 'practicing' and not enough time enjoying the core of it all.

You inspired me a lot Steve, I started playing and taking guitar lessons when I was 10 and I actually had to relearn guitar all over again. I was born with a super rare kidney and liver disease and have had to undergo 3 different kidney transplants and 1 liver transplant in my life. I'm 33 right now and had my first transplant at 13 which I lost to pneumonia bc after transplant you have to take medication to basically kill your immune system so your body won't reject the transplants. my most recent transplant was back in 2017 it was a dual kidney/liver and since it was my third kidney transplant the recovery was incredibly hard. About a year before that transplant though I started having heart issues and it caused the tips of my fingers to slighty club and the shape change was enough to where I had to basically reteach myself new ways to play because for example playing open clean chords the reach was tougher because they shortened by the tiniest bit, so like if I would normal play a CMaj i'll play a Cadd9 instead. It took me like a year to even get close to where I used to be. Also between my 2nd and 3rd transplant I was on dialysis for 8 years and it caused me to develop severe bone disease and after the double transplant the bone disease kind of kicked into overdrive and I went from easily practicing 7-9 hours a day to now having to take a 10-15 min break every 20 min or so. I don't think I will ever be able to get back to where I was before all the shit happened but I do my best. I tend not to post a lot of me playing bc I'm incredibly self concious of both the way my hands/fingers look and even though I get compliments on my playing a lot I still feel like I suck compared to my old self. Plus being tech disabled I can't work anymore so upgrading gear is tough, I recently was able to get one of my dream guitars from when I was a kid an Ibanez Jem, its not the top version but it's still awesome, literally took me 6 years of saving though lol. When I first found your channel a few years back and saw your Kiesel custom headless I was in love, Kiesel's headless guitars are so friggin beautiful, I was looking through their collection after I first saw yours and HOLY SHIT man some of those headless models are so gorgeous, one day I'll own one. But yeah dude I love your videos, you are an incredible muscian with a truckload of talent, easily one of the top guitarists on the platform, also huge congrats on playing with Dragonforce! I can def understand having bad social anxiety, I've kind of been housebound since 2017 with this most recent transplant I gotta be super careful, even moreso now because of Covid, so the Anxiety I always have had basically quadrupled after 2017 but thankfully we have the internet so it's easy to not feel super isolated. Anywa sorry for writing a book on here my friend but you are a huge inspiration to me and many of up and coming muscians I'm sure! 🥰🥰😊😊

This was awesome!! I recognized some of those people, in fact that last one was Kevin Frasard...he plays some good stuff. I don't know a lot of the acoustic finger style players. As impressive as they are, it's just not something I have any desire to learn. Not to mention the time and abilities it would take that I do not possess!! 😂🤣 You're right up there with the best of the best Steve! You are the one that got me interested in playing guitar (and bass) again after a very long break 🥰

Perfect fun! 🎉 I'm glad I at least recognized Jason Richardson. 😆 When "Sparrow" recently came out, I seriously thought, when is Steve coming up with a banger like that?!? One day, you just have to!! 😊 But I was quite impressed how far you can stretch techniques with a guitar! Flamenco always works anyway, and Alla Turca, without a pinkie? Phew!! That Sitar thing wasn't despicable, either! So, thanks for broadening my horizon here and have a fantastic weekend!! (That seed sling, tho!!! 🤣) Cool, you're hopping on stage more often, now! So glad KZbin is working like normal this weekend… haha! The second guitarist I have seen on Tik Tok before, but don’t know his name. These people were very interesting to watch… and are pretty good and obviously talented, and you are right up there with them, if not better! You are an amazing guitarist!! I hope you had fun at Canal Days with Walk Off The Earth so glad you are starting to overcome your anxiety it is not easy so I am glad that after DragonForce, you are putting yourself out there more and performing! You are definitely an inspiration, not just with music but with anything! I have anxiety as well… sometimes it is not easy, and can be frustrating at times. But you just have to move forward. I love seeing you be yourself in your element, and doing what makes you happy… not giving a single f*** what other people think. I need to start not giving f***s about what people think lol but I do struggle a lot with that. You do you, Stevie! That’s all that matters! 😄 *high five* ✋🏻 I also like reaction videos! You should do more. But it is probably not as fun for you as the music stuff is haha

@@seanthony18 Yes, I saw that you followed me back! Thank you so much! 🥰 I have more social anxiety rather than generalized. I even struggled with being selectively mute as a child. Meaning I was physically unable to speak in certain situations that make me stressed or uncomfortable. I can speak a lot better now in more situations, but I still struggle with anxious thoughts and what others might think of me. Sometimes I just feel like no one really likes me or loves me at all. So that means a lot to me when people notice me or go out of their way to be kind to me. I try to do the same to others because I know what it feels like to not feel loved. 🥲💖

The guy in Vans hoodie blew me away! Watch out Michael Angelo Batio😉. It takes a lot of skill and talent to play as good as these guitarists, but at the end of the day, I only want to listen to those who play with emotion ,passion and creativity (not just technical skills). And you my friend have it all. This video does a really good job at describing my feeling towards percussive guitar. So many of those guys are really talented but cannot help themselves in writing percussive guitar bongo breakdowns that end up having nothing to do with the rest of the song. Tom Boston does a really nice job focusing on the melody and using the percussion to support.
