No, it's all staged. So many past contestants have talked about it, and it's horrible what they do to a lot of them. I will never watch again after hearing the stories. Look it up, you'll find tons

@@virgochic81 it IS staged in a way: before this audition, there is a preliminary audition. rather lame, no audience, no stage, no mic, in one of a dozen rooms all the same. and the panels of judges are old geezers. many who get to this stage are sent here to fail, full of false hope, that much is true, but the reactions of THIS set of judges is authentic.... then the live show is live... yes, the preliminary audition is done behind the scenes, and these auditions are recordings, but sometimes theres a massive surprise like Susan Boyle... that was decidedly not a fake reaction. sure shed already sang for one panel, but because they let through both good and bad, the judges can still be taken completely by surprise, and that would be completely negated if they knew that all contestants were at least decent.
