It's easy to forget how monstrous even a moderately trained and armored dwarf can be on the field of battle. However when you see them cutting a bloody swath through their enemies, whilst outnumbered so heavily, you quickly remember why the game isn't called "Human fortress" lol. Cool video HH!

Honestly, one of my favourite parts of df are the combat shenanigans dwarfs pull. Sure, stabbing the opponent in the head repeatedly would be more efficient, but slapping out someone's teeth or somehow breaking their toes with a discarded sock is the true dwarven way, really sends a message.

I had a dwarf that: - Lost his brother in battle front of his eyes and immediately went into a berserker trance. - Slaughtered almost a dozen goblins by his own. Chased the last one down far from the fort and killed him. - Immediately became depressed post-battle, dropped his equipment, and walked into the forest to die in the cold. ... And all that time, you were playing Call of Duty.

Stamina is such a huge asset for combat in DF, you can armor your dwarfs up to the point they are quite safe from taking on pain, train them to dodge and block well, and their weapon skill lets them melt through enemies. However, either from fighting something that is quite difficult to kill or so many enemies in short order dwarfs exhausting during a fight is disasters. I still remember seeing some 40 strong undead siege where all the undead were head to toe in steel armor. I did try to fight them in a choke point behind a hall of traps but... the combo of undead caring not for damage and stamina, their armor, and their numbers my dwarfs got slaughtered after the stamina got to them.

i will never forget my first encounter with a Giant, my fort was still fairly small and i feared the worst... until my warhamemr wielding commander faced the giant, struck it once in the leg, bringing the giant down and then... my commander just literally hammered the Giants head. Like 6 battle pages full of "The Commander struck the head" "The Giant was unable to stand up" till finally the skull cracked and my commander collapsed. I just love this game.

I just had my first parley request bt a group of malicious dwarves, man that was so fun. I didn't take this strategic approach like you did, I ended up losing 5 of my newer recruits, its interesting to see how brutal and monstrous my well trained soldiers were in comparison

combat skill plays a huge role in DF combat. Anyone with (weapon)lord/master in the tite is gonna be several levels higher than your common invader, and capable of taking out dozens of them at a time

I like melting down all of the weapons and armor from sieges into bars of metal to forge arms for my own dwarves. Takes a lot of hauling and fuel, though. I wonder how well it would work to set up a minecart track to quickly gather all of the items and then take them back in one big load.

I'll never forget the time my commander dropped his artifact silver hammer and bit the demon he was fighting. He then shook his head so violently the demon literally exploded with all his teeth and limbs strewn about the room and no torso.

Hi! First time viewer here and new subscribers. This is probably just one of many advices viewers sometimes feel entitled to comment ^^'.. But I just wanna say that I really like your videos and that I think you'll probably ends up in the top DF related content if you keep your videos in these kind of short ≈5 to 10min condensed videos :). Most DF videos are long, often over 30min/1h, and not as satisfying as yours. Keep doing these and I believe you'll keep taking momentum. I've been binge watching your others videos since I saw this one mainly because of that.

@@Kidox110 plus dwarves have a massive advantage with martial trances and are just made to be better. master/lord level fighters are extremely strong and can dodge with ease

I really hate losing dwarfs. But the fights look so much fun. Like they put all this time into training just to die. I can't accept any losses so I just avoid battle :(
