I just love how calm Scooter is for the most part. Like despite all his sillyness, he know when to focus on the objective. And that it's not about him, but comforting the people that will go without him, so they do not have to look back in grief. In the Commander Lilith DLC, when Moxxi was saying how "He may not have been to everyone's... taste, but Scooter was a good man." I was like 'Weeeell, he did drive his girlfriend to banditry and cannibalism, and then paid me to go shoot her in the head so it wouldn't sound like he was a bad boyfriend... but this might not be the time or the place to mention that.' And yeah: he died ensuring the safety of his friends. I don't know if that makes up for his various acts of awfulness, but it at least ameliorates them.

idk... Shooty McFace is like the most important death in the series. Scooter's death is tragic and heartwrenching, but like... come on man. it's Shooty McFace. he is the backbone of the series. without him, borderlands 3 would never have happened. tiny tina's wonderlands wouldn't exist. the foreshadowing behind Shooty McFace is also genius. if you look carefully, you can see an ad in the newspaper near the beginning of the game by Shooty McFace himself, just begging for someone to "shoot him in the godamn face." there's nothing more profound or noble than that. while scooter helped the player physically by supplying them with vehicles, Shooty McFace is teaching the player a valuable lesson. life is meaningless and we're all going to die. so just shoot yourself in the face. (i feel like for the sake of mental health i might as well say this is not a sign to kill yourself, things are going to get better. i've been there too.) but back to the point, he's pursuing his dreams. all he wants is to get shot in the face. and he's very polite about it, after you shoot him (unless you're a monster and decide to NOT fulfill his only goal in life) he thanks you. like he literally says thank you. what a gentleman. for comparison, Scooter's last words are his catchphrase. it's just so conceded. the last thing he said was all about him. Shooty Mcface thanks you. he's appreciative of the life he's given. thank you for attending my ted talk on why Shooty McFace's death is much, much more important, impactful, and meaningful to the borderlands series than Scooter's. if by some miracle you actually read all of this, props to you man :)

I personally feel the same, but I feel like part of that is the suddenness of death. Roland is just shot dead from behind by Jack, our only warning being a flash of light behind him before the shot. We had no warning, and no time to be "convinced" that he can be saved. True, it still hurt, butmore from seeing how everyone else reacted to the bad news. For Scooter, we have this long and heartfelt moment, with a silent hope that a miracle saves him. We have a lot more time to soak in his impending death. That, and we interact with Scooter way more than Roland because we always use a Catch-A-Ride. Only times we hear from Roland in BL2 is during story missions and maybe one or two sidequests. It might be a different case for Roland players back in BL1, so...
