If they ever did put out an HD remastered version of this show I would certainly buy it. That being said, it does still look great on this collection as well as the DVD versions and is highly enjoyable regardless of the resolution.

I bought the ‘84 German dvd release and all the discs came in cheap loose plastic slip cases instead of any actual hard plastic container. The box looks incredible but the discs being loose was a real buzz kill. :(

That is disappointing. I think the way that the discs are stored in the Blu-ray collection works really well. I wonder why the DVD set would be different. Perhaps to minimize the amount of space the box would take up since it would need to be on a larger number of discs?

I do believe that Tales From The Crypt deserves to be released in Blu-Ray with Blu-Ray quality.Unless it was recorded on tape,the quality might be great if recorded on regular film reel.

How does the picture/sound quality from this German set compare to the picture/sound quality from the U.S. DVD releases? Have the German episodes been remastered at all?

I would say that the picture and sound quality is pretty comparable. I don't think you're really gaining or losing anything one way or the other. That's why I said the U.S. DVD set is probably going to be fine for most people. This collection is really more of a collector's piece for the hardcore fans. It also takes up less space than the U.S. DVD box set. So maybe that's something to take into a consideration if you don't already have that collection and are potentially looking at this as an alternative.

have you compared the technical specs, like bitrate and elses of the 2 versions? I know you said theres not much difference on the naked eye, but Ive heard that some of these german releases (and I dont know if I'm comparing apples to oranges) like knight rider or the six million dollar man have a decent upscale in bluray that makes them worthy to buy

I actually no longer have my old DVD set so I can't do a comparison. However, I can say that the videos on the Blu-ray set from Germany seem to average around 6Mbps

So I am German and I also bought this set. The reason this series is on Blu ray but with normal quality is the amount of free space the Blu ray has. On DVD you would need like 20 disc's. On Blu ray u need 7 disc's... That's the only reason.

Yes, these are all uncut episodes as far as I can tell. I have yet to watch an episode from this set that would make me think otherwise.

No they don't. They include both the original English and the German dubbed language tracks, but they do not include any subtitles.

@@discfunctionalcommentary2775 That is really a deal-breaker. I never understood how some DVDs and BRs didn't AT LEAST have their original languages subtitled. Manufacturers might not care about foreigners, but let at least deaf people enjoy your movies / series ! I remember being very annoyed when I received my "Coupling" serie DVD set because of that... Well, the "perfect" edition of "Tales" in Europe is still yet to come I guess...
