@@maxpowers9327 As I understand it that's actually not too uncommon. A lot of times they'll show the film to test audiences and/or studio representatives before things are finalized so that they can make changes and do reshoots if needed. I'm guessing that's what happened here: They filmed the "hanging" ending, but the studio reps/test audiences wanted to see the dolls take him out so they authorized more funding to shoot the new ending for the final product. Sometimes this is probably a good thing and others it probably isn't (for instance, I much prefer the original ending to "I am Legend" over the one the studio insisted on), but if that's what happened here then I think it turned out well.

As much as I absolutely love the recognition Jordan Peele has gotten for using horror to bring attention to the black experience in America, I think Rusty Cundieff is criminally overlooked as a pioneer. And it goes without saying that Spike Lee is owed like 10 Oscars for everything he brought to filmmaking for the past 4+ decades.

I agree. David Alan Grier is a Taekwondo black belt in real life. Displayed his real martial arts skills attacking Richard Garvy, the teacher, in the kitchen alongside Carl's battered wife and stepson. David's character, Carl/The Monster wasn't literally a monster physically outside of Walter's traumatized child imagination point of view, but Carl was a very strong, abusive psychopath. Carl was a very good, experienced street fighter at best. Monster had hands. He wasn't your typical abusive bullying coward. Battered the teacher like nothing. 😂As brave as Richard Garvy was for intervening to defend a helpless small child and female, he couldn't fight for shit.

The sing was originally a poem written by a high school teacher, he was inspired to write the poem by an image of the lynching of Thomas Shipp and Abram Smith. The poem was put into newspapers and stuff and Billie Holiday saw it and reworked it into a song. At the end of all of her performances she would shut the entire place down except for one spotlight, and she would perform Strange Fruit to bring awareness to the lynchings happening to african americans at the time.

I think a lot of people don't realize the female doctor at the rehabilitation thing is supposed to be like a metaphor for God, offering forgiveness and salvation, not because Crazy K deserved it but because he needed it, and Crazy K proved definitively he was not a soul that could be saved when he chose to still kill and was highly convicted killing in the name of selfishness was the way to live, that's why time was able to be "rewound" or you are "seeing something that didn't really happen" because the woman is God and God knows all things things in the past present and future and all things that happen and could happen and things that never even could happen. I mean, it makes sense, they have the Devil in the movie, why wouldn't they have God, it's sad a lot of people overlook it i didn't realize it until recently myself, but as someone who believes in God at this point in my life and knows it quite well i picked up on the metaphor.

@DanteYewToob4 жыл бұрын
@@blingsing5383 They are Hoodoo dolls, which is very different from Voodoo.. but the racist guy constantly calls them 'Negro-Dolls' or straight up 'N*-Dolls'... In case you're curious about how Hoodoo is different from Hatian Voodou, or Louisiana Voodu; Hoodoo is something developed specifically by American black people. It was a mix of African culture and spiritual beliefs, native American herbology, healing, and folk beliefs, and more modern christianity and Catholicism. Obviously the African people brought to America had only as much of their own culture as was brought in the minds of those who knew it. But a lot of the practices and rituals didn't work here, because they required things we didn't have.. different herbs, plants, clay.. etc. So they filled in the gaps with things they learned from native Americans who were also mistreated, and took what parts of christianity that they could tolerate. As you can imagine, many blacks and the first "African Americans" as the generations passed, were not interested in christianity. They kinda hated it. Because everything they knew about christianity was used to enslave them and excuse the inhuman behavior of their tormentors. So they just took the parts they could relate to, added it to their own rituals and created something entirely new and unique. It's an interesting history of how good people coped with the absolute worst of humanity while trying to stay sane and keep their own humanity intact. The sheer strength and fortitude of those people from so long ago blows my mind.

I think this is the first time I've ever made a comment on the Kill Count, but I had to. This is my favorite film of all time time. I remember seeing it at the theater in June of 95. My cousin and I went to the Plaza Cinema(which is now a Pizza restaurant) . I was waiting on this film for a year because Joe Torry was on an episode of Rap City in '94 discussing with Joe Claire about a new Horror film coming out that also starred Clarence Williams II. The source(hip hop mag) did an article on it, I bought the soundtrack from Tracks(music store that also no longer exists) and anticipated seeing it. So on a friday June 16, we saw it and it was everything I expected. I hate that it didn't get the respect it deserved. Everything about each tale is still relevant today. There is still police brutality, domestic abuse in the home, racist politicians(lol), and gang violence. I appreciate the Kill Count for this film and Bones. I'm black and all I watch is horror films, but there is a perception that many of us don't and that's why a lot of black horror is overlooked or not made at all. Also, the voodoo lady in the kkk/politician story is Rusty Cundieff's mother, Newton from 1st tale is the guy who accidentally killed Brandon Lee in The Crow, and Martin Morehouse played a similar role in Creepshow 2 as the hitchhiker that a driver could not get rid of. Another overlooked urban Horror film from is Def By Temptation made by another Spike Lee alumni from School Daze, James Bond III. Thanks for what you're doing with the Kill Count as I hope you continue to prosper through greatness. Blessings....

That story was really eye opening. I was so sad Krazy K didn't learn anything

That story still is relevant today especially in Chicago, it’s men that think the same way he does and the cycle of violence continues. Crazy K accepted his reality and let himself continue to be a product of his environment instead of redeeming himself. It’s so sad

R.I.P. Clarence Williams III, who played Mr. Simms, who died this year (2021) on the 4th of June. Respect to him and his great roles (this one in particular, awesome movie)

Y’know, the fact that there’s “13” kills is really grand here.
