Southeastern Championship Wrestling was a promotion that ran from 1974 - 1989 . It originally began in Knoxville Tennessee owned by brothers Ron and Robert Fuller and eventually extended all the way down the Florida coast when they purchased Gulf Coast Championship wrestling, along with partners Bullet Bob Armstrong, Jimmy Golden and Roy Lee Welch .
Southeastern Championship wrestling sustained itself through a mixture of homegrown talent, veterans who wanted easier road trips, and young up-and-comers. Many wrestlers who worked the territory considered it a vacation but
In the late 70’s the wrestling wars between rival promotions lead to a handful of wrestlers threatening to expose the business on an unreleased video all stating that they had never had a real wrestling match and everything as pre planned. This was somewhat of an insurance policy, known as PLAN B.
Ron Fuller continued to run the promotion from 1985 - 1988 and changed the name to Continental Championship Wrestling, before selling it to David Woods and the name was again changed to the Continental Wrestling Federation, in a further attempt to compete with Vince McMahon and appear to resemble a nationwide promotion, even to the point of getting an odd national TV deal with Financial News Network. Their last TV episode aired on November 25, 1989. The promotion closed after their final show on December 6, 1989.
Many refer to this territory as the "Lost Promotion" as so little about it is known even today.

My 9th grade English and homeroom teacher was none other than Mike "action" Jackson when I was 16 Back in 1985. It was a small private school and I almost passed out when I walked in the classroom and saw him sitting there. Anyway, he talked about a few of the topics discussed here in this video. . 😁 Having one of my favorite local wrestlers as my high school teacher was definitely one of the coolest things that has happened in my lifetime.

I agree 100%. If I didn't get to see AWA on ESPN, well, crap. If I missed Georgia on TBS, well, crap again. I would be FECKIN ANGRY if I got screwed out of seeing Southeastern. Luckily, I had two shots per Saturday - in the afternoon on WTTO and at midnight on WBRC.

I grew up directly between Nashville and Chattanooga on the 1980s so I got to see all the CWA, NWA, Continental, along with WWF, AWA and World Class on Cable TV. That all being said, Gulas, Fuller, Jarrett promotions always confused even me, being a local fan. These are by far the best wrestling docs explaining the territories that can be found on KZbin. Well done!

I've always found the histories of the various territories to be pretty cut and dried. But the whole region from Kentucky to Tennessee to Mississippi to Alabama has always been so confusing. Your video helped clear it up. Thank you.

My single favorite thing about wrestling is the tribute shows. From the modern day ten bell ring ceremony where the roster stands outside the curtain with their heads bowed. Seeing giant musclemen tear up because a colleague died always gets me. I also love the charity shows. Even guys like Vince McMahon will allow talent to perform with talent from different companies in a neutral location. Guys will work for free so the bulk of money can be donated. I wish when the bad things happened and the media or a hostile ex-employee talk shit about the business, the charity events also got spotlighted. It truly is a brotherhood. This channel does documentaries of companies that aren't WWE, AEW, ROH, or TNA. A lot of these territories I knew nothing about. Great work fella!

For it to be a lost promotion, some real stars came through here. I’m from Birmingham where it was filmed and we went every Monday night. A lot of our stars were local and a lot of big careers were started here. The baby faces were adored and the heels got real heat. The Armstrongs were like the Von Erich’s. We had Lord Humongous, Mr Olympia and the Nightmares to name a few that were heels and my favorites as I always loved the heels and hated the good guys. My dad worked out at the local gyms with these guys so I got a chance to meet them often behind the scenes. Kayfabe was in full effect and it was an incredible time. We got people like Hulk Hogan, the Tonka Kid, Arn Anderson and so many more that went on to great things. Gordon Solie was an incredible announcer and was so calm to be so pivotal. One of the greatest matches ever was Ric Flair vs Lord Humongous and Ric would appear often as it was a territory of NWA. Harley Race would come and the Rich cousins Tommy and Johnny were mainstays. Far from lost or forgotten.

Reruns of Continental would air on a local FOX station here in Alabama every weekday morning at 5 or 6am back in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Guys like the Armstrongs, “Wildcat” Wendell Cooley, Shane Douglas, Lord Humongous (the Sid version), Adrian Street, and others were featured.

Mine was a spot show put on by Bobby Dee. Mostly former Gulas guys. He also brought in Ginger the Bear. She peed in the ring and hiptossed one of the heels into it. Us kids HOWLED at that like it was the greatest thing we had ever seen because, hell, it was. The main event was Joey Rossi and Arvil Hutto against Pat Rose and Larry Cheatham. A few years later Continental did the same venue - they had Bullet vs. Jerry Stubbs (was that match good? GUESS), Tony Anthony, Roy Lee Welch (who was, IMHO, VERY underrated, underpushed, whatever), the RAT patrol, Kevin Sullivan, Tommy Rich, and the main event was Wildcat Wendell Cooley vs. Exotic Adrian Street (with the lovely Lady Linda).

Excellent series of docs. Obviously a great deal of time and effort employed to create them. I enjoy having these play while i do my art, or just veg on the couch. Well narrated, good visuals and the little tidbits of info are informative and entertaining. Inspired me to do some classic wrestling paintings … dusty, flair, the giant, studd, snuka, sheik, macho man, buddy rogers etc… my list of art to do is growing by the day . Luckily, ive got plenty of well put together audio and video to keep me motivated.

Bob told me years later that he wished he never did the heel turn. I had told him how upset I was at the time (I was 12, and THE biggest mark in 3 counties), in denial, on the verge of tears. He said it wasn't just me, lots and lots of kids (and adults too) were genuinely angry and hurt and after all was said and done, he wished he hadn't done it.
