Met Doyle a few years ago when I went to the ORHC, what a great guy. One of my favorite quotes from him was, when asked why he never uses the air horn on 4449 he said “if I wanted to blow an air horn, I would get on a f*cking diesel and run!”

I remember that day!! No idea why that's the question that popped into my head out of the thousands I could’ve asked in the cab, but after hearing that answer I was extremely glad I did LOL

He will use the airhorn rarely.. if people ahead have upset him by getting in too close to the ROW, your likely to get the airhorn.. If you hear the Airhorn, someone done screwed up.

this was the video that got me into trains. I watched it over and over. Mr. McCormick would be one railroad man I would have loved to share lunch with and just talk to him for a few minutes

While I haven’t had the privilege of meeting Doyle, I do consider myself incredibly fortunate to have crossed paths with him when the Daylight made its way to Michigan back in 2009

Fond memories of camping at Carpentaria State Beach Park in the early 1950s. My friend and I would walk up to the tracks to watch the Daylight come through and listen to that steam whistle.

I grew up on the documentary this team so graciously permitted Skyfire Video to make for VHS. It was a cherished childhood memory, and still pleasant to return to now and again. To come back almost 20 years later and hear more about the engineer Doyle is such a wonderful thing! Oh how I would love to go and take a ride on the Daylight as a passenger, just once.
