Watching this, has brought back so many memories of all the gut wrenching disappointments of Racehorse ownership. Very hard to advise your next move. For me the decision to get out of the game, was the hardest part. Once i had made that decision, things got easier & several years on, i have no regrets. I had always aspired to owning a racehorse and having achieved that, the memories of those days will stay with me for the rest of my life. Good luck fella, " It's not always dark at 5 o'clock".

Watched the video Matt. Yes it's hard with disappointments. It was the same with Revich where he was a star but when this year the light was not there. Of course I'm a syndicate owner as you know. Did have a few NH horses but the injuries on gallops etc. Been on the flat with lots of horses. Been successfull. Ownership is hard cos not getting the results etc. But then it clicks and your out of the dark tunnel. Hard to explain writing this to explain myself. Just a suggestion for Max. Wonder give him a spin on All-Weather. As there not alot of jumps races in the program book in Jan-Feb. Just a idea.

Chin up, remember life is full of swings and roundabouts. I think the most important aspect is that Kamaxos is healthy, fit, free from injury and happy. The performance on the race track you're expecting will no doubt come but until then you and the team will need to remain upbeat and patient. There's little point in you stressing yourself out worrying about things you have little control over, you'll make yourself ill. Here's wishing you all the best in your ownership and I really hope Kamaxos can put his best leg forward when he next races.

Completely understandable mate being fed up especially after being told he wasn’t fit. I’ve had 2 horses now (in syndicates but a decent share in each ) over the last 2 years and both have been terrible sadly. I think as owners we do it for the love of the sport and more so the love of horses. Like you say we as owners put so much into the sport especially financially aswell as other things and feel you don’t really get much back at all. Keep going though mate , you know when things do click into place, eventually, that winning feeling will be even sweeter when it happens. Matt i have owned horses under both codes so i understand your frustration. What stands out for me is according to the RP your horse bled after the Warwick race his first over fences. You then ran him 3 weeks later when he pulled up. When a horse bleeds it can be caused by stress as i have seen this with one of mine. If he was mine i would revert back to hurdles to help him to regain his confidence then afterwards it would give you a better idea on the way forward.

I know it’s a very personal thing but I’ve wondered if you’ve considered changing stables? Roger only has a 6% hurdles strike rate over the last 5 years, so effectively for every 20 races Max is racing in he’s only supposed to win 1 race, based on those stats at least. I wish you all the best with Max, I just wondered if a jumps-only trainer would be more appropriate for Max? 🙏🏻

My advice to someone new to racing. Get into a good syndicate. Gives you a feel for the ups and downs. If you have ££££££ ( bear in mind the purchase of the hose is minor compared to upkeep: trainers fees, feed, bedding, vets, farriers, physios, transport, insurance etc etc) start out with a couple of nice mares from good Irish bloodlines. ( preferably Coolmoe NH stallions). Mares have been so underrated: they are tough and resilient, and when they finish their racing career you can breed a nice horse of your own, or sell them on at- at current Goffs returns- a big €€€€€€.

@ IME the french horses mature early and fade quickly . There was a mad rush to buy up anything french bred and raced at 4 over jumps in the 90s. But this was before Coolmore got their act together and realised the power and potential their stallions had ( which of course the french realised 30yrs ago). I was interested to see in the Paris olympics how many of the top performing horses were mares. Can’t better a good one.

I’d like to know why you have a jumps horse trained by someone who is a flat trainer? The first thing i’d ask is how many capable horses does mine go out with on the gallops and for jumps training. Looking at your trainer’s current record and stable roster, that would be 0. You need to make up your mind to be a jumps owner and switch yards, or a flat owner and put your hand deep in your pocket.

Racehorse ownership is great if you have a endless supply of money, trainers and jocks will tell you any old bull to try and keep you happy remember most trainers are under pressure with rising overheads and poor prize money. Once a horse has found his mark he will be hard to win with unless he is a big improver he will win again but you will need to be patient, the chances of making money out of ownership are about the same as gambling one in a hundred.

@@paulterry7672 I think its fair to say that know one can expect to make money. It is wrong that Owners do not get the opportunity to make a profit when the rest of the industry does. Some see it has a hobbie but you should be able to make money from having a horse. It’s like Elton John expected to perform on a stage and not get paid. No difference, horses are performing so most of the industry can make money but the owners only given small amounts of prize money. If the performer does not perform everyone still gets paid apart from the owner. When you really sit back and think deeply about that , it’s very unfair. ..Again I am not in it for that reason but what insensitive does Amy owner have to buy another and so on. Hope you won't mind me commenting as i don't know very much about owning a racehorse but i can understand human nature. You have clearly put a lot if yourself into this project and are not getting back what you hoped for. I understand that most iwners are in the same position with disappointing horses. No one would invest money ,time , emotions if they knew beforehand that it wasn't going to be any good. Its time to take take stock ,as you say, and decide do you want to go on. Unless you are a very rich owner who can shrug disappointments casually aside because he can always move onto the next expensive horse without a second thought i wouldn't continue. Think of the Arabs who spent hundreds of thousands on a horse for it to turn out no use and sold for a pittance. They can afford that option. Also one final thought, many horses are only much a muchness and always will be and thats just their level.

@onecarefulowner You are resistant to change. It is comfortable for you now. The yard is probably near your house, you probably like Roger, his staff etc. You have happy memories that you don't want to tarnish. These are normal emotions. You should, however, accept that you are making that choice as opposed to making excuses.

Lot of bullshit on here I have been following your story and I feel for you....I have worked with racehorses for 40 yrs all this rubbish about getting a horse fit When you train a horse his mind has to be right ...anyone can gallop a horse to get it fit but you'll blow his brains out it's a fine balancing act this is why you can only do so much. If you lose the brain you lose the horse...... actually I know Roger from yrs ago we rode out together he's very bright and knows the time of day he has come along way in a rough sport......your horse is 540 kilos that's a big boy .....maybe he is fed up it can happen he looks a picture don't give up yet.......

Just how I felt at the time , it’s of course very disappointing and important to show my journey how it is …My concern is that he is not happy. A very consistent horse and in truth he should have taken care of them horses on his form from last year. To see him struggling was upsetting. It’s racing , we all know that. Roger is confident this is fitness and is expecting a turn around for the run. We will see. Thanks for being part of my journey

If he didn't get injured Desert Crown and Michael stoute would have gone down in History.Desert crown out od desrt Green what a great horsed murered thr Field on his debut at Leicter won the Dante then the Derby.Desert Crown on his day beats all of them including O'briens King of Troy Augustus Rodin good on Firm ground or good ground but useless horse on the soft.If they can't go on the ground they won't win.

Not being funny but if you put a national hunt horse in training with a flat trainer you more or less deserve what you get from it. The trainer has had 5 winners in 5 years. 2 of them for you.
@onecarefulowner
@onecarefulowner 5 күн бұрын
Thanks for your opinion. Roger has very limited jump horses so the number you mention is not very relevant. It’s easy to point to him being a flat trainer but Max performed well last year. Let’s see what happens, I have faith just disappointed which is fine. It’s sport

@onecarefulowner Even in that video you showed there, the yard is dead. How much schooling is done? Is he working with flat horses? Does he school alone? It is not a genuine dual-purpose yard if there's only one or two national hunt horses. The answer is staring you in the face.

I can empathise with you. Very disappointing he wasn’t fit enough. Very obvious in the way he was blowing after the race beside the fact he ran poorly. I got fed up with trainers so now just get shares in well bred one with top trainers. Have had good successes. I’m wondering what RTeals recovery strategies are for the horses after a race. Probably the most important aspect of training but often overlooked! Just do what’s best for you and Max. He would want to improve big time next up or I’d be out.

With a trainer who is flat dominated, i would imagine it is hard to coordinate the training of a 2M plus hurdler with the sprinters which he is known for. Personally, i would move the horse to a jumping yard.

@ in my experience, it is not possible to be a ‘dual purpose’ trainer. Sorry Alan. Richard Roger etc etc. How many horses do they have that can run round the extended gallops ( if they have them) to maintain a training group? How many of that limited number have training jumps in a school, let alone outside school
@JackBurton-w7x

If what you say is true then your trainer is in violation of racing rules. This is not the 60’s event if the trainer thinks it is. Not sure why you stable a jumper with a flat trainer whose jump record is at best abysmal. I personally would stable the horse with a trainer who is a nh trainer not a trainer making extra money attempting nh. He obviously doesn’t care about fitness and thats probably the reason he has never been any good. There is a race for Max if you care to get him a trainer who actually trains them and doesn’t go through the motions just to get the fees. I have owned several horses over the past 4 decades, none have been worldbeaters but I got into racing with my eyes wide open. I didn’t get in with the express intention of making money, I got in for the thrill of being an owner. As Bernard Llewellyn once said about an offer on a horse he owned- if racing gives you the chance to make a quick profit, take the money and run as it doesn’t happen often

@ yes I appreciate that but any trainer worth their salts doesn’t run a horse unfit. The only exception might be a lazy home horse but even these get better fitness with training. Thats why it’s called training. My first horse went to a guy called Ben Wise, trained about 20 in Sussex. Raided and milked the local tracks, Fontwell, Plumpton, Folkestone and Lingfield mainly. Best known horse he had was Brahms and Listz, he always made sure they were ready. One thing they didn’t lack was fitness. Max is hardly Persian War is he !
