Desperately waiting for some high tier ladder games / strategy discussions. It's hard to find good ToT content from people who can back up their opinions with results.

After figuring out how to play the game I don't think I've ever picked up Portcullis except when trying to fish for a Tithe to try to quickly win or save a losing game.
@PinkAppleYT2 жыл бұрын
Pretty much same situation here! I think it has some viability in standard orgnum decks since they like lots of cards and 2 power there is okay, but outside of that case is a pretty awful card.
@ReasonableRadio2 жыл бұрын
I feel like the agents are a little low, since draining your opponents power with cards that can come up over and over or be a nice extra shuffle-in with a green card in specific is pretty oppressive feeling

Speaking of red cards what's you stand on sacrificing the starter red in your hand in the early game. I find it kills my momentum as I try to focus on buying power for the first 4-5 turns. Would it be a mistake to trade it for the writ of coin in the early game?
@PinkAppleYT2 жыл бұрын
I turn it into a writ asap almost every game :) you have the right idea!

@@PinkAppleYT 😂 and here I was questioning my life choices! Nice I will have to continue doing that then. I am glad to have found your channel today! Now all I need to do is get my confidence back, been hitting the Ls hard this week. Got to get my head straight so I can get to a point where I can challenge people like you and Old Salty Sean. 😄

Again, speaking as a player that plays Rajhin in 100% of games, I couldn't disagree more about the Portcullis being the worst card in the game, I would slot this card as like a B or B-, it's definitely not the most impactful card and if my deck is relatively thin, I probably often won't want it, but if my deck is fat and full of other stuff that isn't designed to combo reliably every turn because both players have been feeding each other curses, I am happy to have a consistent power generator in lots of situations. Definitely not a critical card to buy in most situations, but, calling this the worst card in the game when there are cards like, Time Mastery, Customs Seizure, Imperial Spoils, it clearly isn't the worst card in the game. Not to mention, Bewilderment, that is a pretty bad card too.

Interesting that you feel portcullis is stronger in "fat" decks, personally I find it better in really thin power concentrated decks! Our matches likely play out a bit differently though, 2 power every once in a while is pretty meaningless for me usually. I tend to have my win condition planned out from the start and play set up whatever the winning moves look like for that win condition, and the portcullis just almost never falls into those plans. Just to be clear im not saying its definitively the worst card in the game, but I think its a strong contender for it! I actually prefer the cards you listed in almost all situations over portcullis, besides bewilderment ofcourse :p

@@PinkAppleYT I could potentially see it as useful in a deck that already is thin and having red cards, but, that's a rare situation. In a thin deck, the average usefulness of your cards is very high, so adding a relatively unimpactful card like portcullis usually lowers the average usefulness of your cards in your deck -- whereas if your deck is thick, it probably has a lot of low usefulness cards in it already. Along these lines I can think of two typical very main situations when decks are heavy: 1) Rajhin is in the game and players are spamming Rajhin a lot in order to mess up the opponent's combos. In this situation, because both players have a bunch of curses, the average card power in the deck is pretty low, and portcullis contributes to the deck to push for the end of the game without having to combo with anything, so it is often useful. 2) Orgnum is in the game, and literally any little cards that can help you rush down the end of the game are all helpful. Portcullis is actually an outstanding card in that scenario.
@roanlaplante2 жыл бұрын
I played a game against you this morning that was a bit like scenario #1, the patrons were black, blue, purple, and Rajhin, you opened with a purple card and I opened with midnight raid and a ragpicker, and I started spamming Rajhin curses at you very quickly. Your combo deck got its purple combos off once or twice but by the end of the game both of our decks were full of curses, my deck was slightly thinner and Midnight Raid is the card that won me the game because I was able to draw it once a reshuffle and your purple cards couldnt combo with each other reliably enough to generate power. That, is a thick deck situation in which Portcullis would have been helpful for either of our decks, although obviously Pelin wasn't in the game. It is fair to say that in the Rajhin situation, Pelin being in the game will often mean that there are way better Pelin cards to execute the rush to the end of the game, such that Portcullis would still be of use to push to the end of the game if both decks are gummed up, but there will probably be other, better red cards in both players decks too. In the Orgnum situation, by contrast, Portcullis would be of very high value starting immediately on turn 1.

@@roanlaplante GG I remember the match played out pretty interestingly! We should play a few friendly matches in a row some time. I'd love to experience more matches similar to that one and get a better idea of how I feel in those situations for future videos. Feel free to add me in game if you'd like @PinkAppleYT
