It's interesting to me the choices you made when deciding which modern vampire tropes to include and, more importantly, which you chose not to include in Kaimere's version of Vampires. The choice to make them mortal after transformation but with an increased lifespan in particular. Immortality being a staple in vampire lore, the choice to simply increase the amount of time vampirism grants a person changes how your vampires feel. That combined with each vampire being a ticking timebomb that will inevitable lose their battle with their thirst and be reduced to a monster certainly give your vampires their own distinct flavor. The benefits of vampirism are not only offset by the odd diet and partial loss of humanity, but your vampires are all doomed to a fate worse than death, assuming nothing kills them before then. This to me makes them all the more tragic, as eventually even the most mild mannered and friendly vamp will devolve into a ravenous beast in a vaguely human body. Certainly a different take.
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Thank you! I like the idea that there’s a balance: you need a bit of blood or you will lose your humanity. If you abstain too long the inevitable comes faster, but can you live with the cost? Indulging too much and you’ll also just become a monster, but that’s a definite if you abstain.

You hit the nail on the head for how many people in certain areas of Southern Appalachia and the South felt about the civil war-- where I'm from, people hid their sons in caves to keep the Confederacy from forcibly drafting them into what was seen as a rich man's war to oppress others.
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
It really is insidious that the rich slavers got to influence the narrative and how it’s often portrayed today. Of course slavery as an institution should be acknowledged and looked back on with anger, but why more descendants of poor whites who fought and died so the rich could keep owning black people don’t look back with rage honestly astounds me.

Such a fitting video for a fittingly spooky occasion! It is always a treat to get Halloween-themed videos on Kaimere’s supernatural creatures! Your worldbuilding is, as I and many others have said prior, absolutely fascinating and incredibly solid! In particular, I’ve been on a kick of absorbing vampire lore this year for some reason unknown to me, so this was an incredibly exciting notification to receive! I have to wonder- we’ve just gotten substantial information on vampires and how they relate to the greater world, but not much was said of Ghosts, aside from them being mostly seen in the magic of a Witch rather than an ordinary Kaimeran. With how much interest ghost hunters have gained in the recent few decades, and presuming that the fantastical events of Kaimere have some explanation for the majority of strange phenomena described on Earth, does that imply that ghosts of Humans too, not just Kaimerans, can exist, if even for a limited time? Given that humans do not have the same innate magic it definitely wouldn’t be a common or even uncommon occurrence, but is such a being prevalent enough for the Assembly to have studied and/or regulated? Does the behavior of ghosts follow the ideals of the now-deceased host, or are they simply mindless beings of magic that consume until they can’t keep themselves active anymore? Thanks again for another wonderful installation! Two anthologies down, and more stories on the way, this project has come incredibly far in the relatively short time you’ve been sharing it with us on KZbin! As always, your work and the art it produces are an absolute delight- Happy Halloween!

In total, the Walking Dead types that exist on Kaimere are : 1 - The Typical Base Wealcanlish/Mindless Wealcanlish/Unconscious Wealcanlish/Zombie (person dead which the magic control its body, and either eat food he can find or sleep). 2 - The Self-Aware Wealcanlish/Conscious Wealcanlish/Witch Wealcanlish/Revenants (witch dead which here have keep is mind and is aware of its actions). 3 - The Ushalek's Guardians (animals or people mind-controlled by the Ushalek forest which turned them into slaves for his own care, and turn them as well into half-vegetal half-flesh organisms). 4 - And the Vampires (a type of Thralls. People that mutate and undergo a specific mutation similar after being in contact with others Vampires blood/venom, and enchanced them while also editing them to be forced to drink people's blood as major food and with the ability to turn half-beast when they don't managed to eat enough nutrients, into a specific animals following the differents lineages recorded. Woooaaaahhhh!!! I love how vampirism is such a potent… venom, in that it literally either kills you, doesnt affect you, or you becomes one! In my story, the world has a liquid known as “ground memory” that keeps record of forms, similar to slime mold, yet this can resurrect creatures albeit with different traits. During New and Full moons, the ground can spawn “vampires” as well (that is simply the closest term we can use to describe them). These vampires are less of transformed creatures as more of a very aggressive, cancerous resurrected being, that can only feed on other sophonts to sustain themselves. They display an uncanny level of morality, and will only (rather intriguingly) transform other sophonts who want to be transformed, into monsters, such as wereanimals or sphinxes…. Said monsters are often also studied by their progenitors to see their effects and how to improve them for the vampire’s own sustenance

And question: how quickly is a transformation for a skin changer? And how does the Assembly operate on Earth and how involved do they get in affairs?
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! Depends on the lineage or strain. For the most part, it takes around a minute. If they gain mass, like the walrus shifters that take mass from the sea, it can take a lot longer, between three and ten minutes. The process can be expedited, especially with the help of a witch, but too fast too often can lead to all sorts of complications and even risk of heart failure, especially if they are not in excellent shape. While shifters have a reputation for peak physical fitness, and the transformation process is incredible exercise, they mostly have to stay in good shape so they don't have a stroke or heart attack in the middle of a shift. They generally stay out of direct involvement. However, they have a lot of very powerful families in politics, finance, education, religion, and the military, so do a lot to pull strings behind the scenes. It's rare that they directly involve themselves, and when they do, it's almost always to stop someone with magic from harming mundane folk or outing themselves, as exemplified by Henry's backstory. The Assembly didn't fight to help liberate enslaved folks, they fought to kill a vampire. Some fund good efforts, but since their main motivation is secrecy and their own power, I certainly won't be painting them as the 'good guys'.

Vampires being damaged by the sun only became a thing after the 1920's (?) film "Nosferatu." Even the novelization of "Dracula" only said sunlight weakens Vampires and they could only shape shift at sunrise, noon (unknown if clock noon or actual midpoint of sun during the day), and sunset. Of course, the point of shape shifting at sunset is kind of moot.
@jessehunter3623 ай бұрын
@@dubuyajay9964 Misleading at best. Vampires have always been characteristically stronger at night, and weakened in the day. In many earlier works, they are bound entirely to night. These together constitute a very common attribute associated with corpse-beasts and demons in many cultures. Beyond that, many myths today associated with the vampire or considered to be a different type of vampires did contain crumpling to dust in the daylight: eg, jiāngshī/goeng1 si1. Besides, Keenan is primarily working from modern sources, and not ancient mythos. The whole description of vampires he gives is rooted most of all in the modern day, reinterpreted and modified to fit in his world, which largely consists of low fantasy with heavy bio science inspiration. In that light, why would it be weird to draw from biology to echo modern vampire understandings?

Questions : 1 - It would be a fascinating topic to speak on the Necromancer themsleves, and what and how they were back at the Witches Era ! I hope that one day someone will sponsor a video on that topic, as they were just mentionned here (yet that justly allow an dedicated episode on them now). 2 - It would be interesting to deep more about why the overall population of Witches, Skin-Changers, Vampires and Homunculies of earth were always and remained alway in a way lesser, less great numerous level than the one of Kaimere. The fact that only a few bunch of each were left on Earth when the First Children fell is a good reasons, while all of the population that went feral gone feral on Kaimere. (the wave of them from the Humunculies Extermination War was very small and isn't a proper reinforcement). But they still have a good period of time from this point and the Human Civilization entering Antiquity era to multiply. Especially Witches and Skin-Changers who reproduce as human easily, more than Vampires and Homunculies which respectively have difficultties to reproduce or take time to level their number respectively. But I guess that Witches and Skin-Changers reproduce more with humans than between themselves and due to their already few number, they were integrated with the human population and their supernatural ability being lost and remaining dormant most of the time inalmsot the entirety of their descendants, only awaking in some rare of them. Right ? 3 - Even if Vampires can turn into half-animals/beasts when they don't managed to get enough nutrient and their magic/body taking possession of them, that didn't made them Werevolves. True Werewolves are all Skin-Changers, given they can tansform completely into the animals in question. Right ? 4 - Vampires aren't evil by nature/birth. If they have the opportunity to not create problems to people, which obviousely will create otherwise problems to them that they would prefer to not have, they will do it. Right ? Especially given that the death of human isn't at all requested/obligatory to drink their blood. A vampire can just catch a human, made it lethargic, drink the small blood portion resueted, and leave the person alive while him fleeing and remaining hidden for some weeks or months before it's body need again blood. Most of the negatives view/ideas that humans, and I guess the Assembly must have recorded, being due to mouth to hears and centuries of misstranslation of rumors, testimonies, and occurences. Right ? 5 - Of course, there must be some criminals among the vampires, which are resposible for a part of the negatives views/ideas that humans and Assembly have on them. Every sophont entities groups have criminals among their members. With the few criminals doing their shit actions, while the rest of the vampires/population remaining silent and don't show itself, which of course,, create the "Silent Population" effect, which victims only being aware of the criminals and never of the clean ones that prefer to avoid problems and to fit in, and think as such that all the vampires bad and bloodthirties and with few see any good ones. It's a tragic, yet common occurence, even in our real-life in many extents :( ...

The depiction of Vampires describe here, in "Tales of Kaimere" is likely one of the, see THE most accurate of a legendary entity/creature of our real-life and which the description matches the most to the general view ideas and what is said in our real-life folklore about it ! Of course, not everything is translated/copy-paste, like the sunlight or onions weakness. But even these traits are present or not in the folklore following the regions/versions. But I still like the differences you made and which made your Vampires apart from the real-life ones of most medias ! Personnaly, I prefer when Vampires are an apart true species of humanoid (close to human) that hae evovled naturally. For sake of simplicity. Rather than enhanced humans in a way or another. Because if as such, that basically would just be humans vs another humans but built differents (not something very exciting, at least for me). But here, for a reason or another, I prefer this second way/iteration ! Because it better and easier for Kaimere, and relations between normal humans and the ones enchanced is one of the main themes on which Tales of Kaimere focus on. I also like the indirect emphasis about Vampires being not evil by birth but just people struggling and victim to their own biology, and going bloodthirsty man-eater not on purpose but due to their organism, the true responsible (not something really heavily put forward in medias showing conflicts between man-eaters and humans). And finally, abouts the Wealcanlish, I like the direction/idea that they aren't dangerous at all to people except if they are controlled by a necromancer witch (or any beings capable to control magic) who order them to attack others people. Which is a welcomed change to the 95% typical zombies from most medias which attack humans on sight mindlessely.
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
There are some very interesting fictional vampires that are a distinct species or population of humans, but this much better fit into the lore and history of Kaimere. I considered a lineage of Homo erectus that became predators/parasites of Homo sapiens, but the practicality and plausibility of that was wanting, especially in how they got to Earth. Having them be a strain of magic the First Children could take with them and infect a population of whatever local people they encountered into loyal thralls was much more efficient than taking guards with them. While there may have been strains of more aggressive wealcanlich in the past, a majority are benign and only aggressive when controlled, which I honestly find more unsettling. A walking corpse always attacking is predictable. Something that normally just goes about its day while its body decays is a different sort of terrifying, especially if it quietly and subtly spreads disease as it continues going about its day, perhaps so put together that it could be mistaken for a tired living.

I wonder if a large enough alliance of witches and warlocks can take on one of the ancient gods... could the first children have managed it possibly?
@TalesofKaimere Жыл бұрын
Given that the elder gods have many dead witches as puppet guardians, probably has been attempted and failed. Then again, the First Children did trap the portal, so it worked at least one time.
@billyholland5156 Жыл бұрын
so the First Children were the only ones who had the hypothetical ability to take them on, though i would imagine not without great difficulty.@@TalesofKaimere

Christian myth

The film "Nosferatu." They were nearing the limit put on their film and needed a quick means to kill the monster and end the film. The Dracula novel only mentioned Vampires being "weakened" by sunlight.
