It’s a variation of the game actually. When there are a low number of people like 7 or less, they would play this variation and sometimes with multiple mafias. We call the variation the russian mafia where there is no night phase in the game.

The bit about the odds staying the same just doesnt make sense at all 😂😂. After simon takes his the odds are either zero or 1 in 5 and theyre either zero or 1 in however many is left surely the odds change depending how many people have drawn

You are correct the chances go like 1/6 then 1/5 or 0 then 1/4 or 0 and so on ( 0 if the mafia has already been picked and 1/n if it hasn't ). However, if you don't know when the mafia is picked you can't "decide" between the 1/n or the 0. Therefore, the problem for every player was like everyone picked a paper and only one of the papers say mafia, what are the chances for any player to be mafia? It's 1/6. I assume Vik was talking about the problem as a player that doesn't know when mafia was picked and not as an outside observer that knows when and who picked mafia.

Let me show the maths(For being a mafia) 1st person : 1/6 2nd person : 5/6(First person not picking mafia) * 1/5(Second person picking) = 1/6 Similarly, 3rd person : 5/6 * 4/5 * 1/4 = 1/6 And so on.
