Steven Tyler actually started a fundraising campaign named: Janies Fund. It helps and assists mostly young girls & women to get guidance, care & rehabilitation once they have been through something like this. This song became an anthem for so many. Thank you for your reaction.

I'm 1000% behind for organizations that help young girls and women to get help, resources, etc...after the trauma of s*xual assaults spirals them downwards,but........ why do we not talk about the boys and young men who have been through the same experience? I see around me all the places and resources for women and girls, but the stories of the boys and young men stays pushed to the back. I was SA'd for two years between the ages of 9 -11 by the hands of 5 different men, all friends with each other. Police wouldn't do nothing because two of them were cops. Three different therapists couldn't help me because they didn't have the experience of treating boys/men who were assaulted. The stigma of men having to keep these things buried has got to end!!

The line: “He jacked a little bitty baby” The record company wouldn’t let Steven Tyler say “r@ped” because they said radio stations wouldn’t play it. So he changed it to “jacked”. What a song. This was off their 1989 album PUMP. Imma HUGE 1970s Aerosmith fan but I gotta say PUMP is probably my all time favorite Aerosmith album. They put various out takes of jam sessions in between each song and the album just flows. One song flows into the next.

A radio edit also has him say, "she left him in the pouring rain". Instead of "she put a bullet in his brain."

Steven Tyler said he was also influenced to write this his time in a drug rehab center. He was shocked about how many women he spoke to began their addiction journey as a way to cope with being s*xually assaulted by their fathers or a close family member. He helped build two Janie's Houses with a fund that helps women and girls on the path to healing. I've never seen anyone comment on a specific section of the video. After she shoo*s him she is on the floor arranging the broken objects into the word LOST. Such a heartbreaking reality for too many.

Unfortunately this type of situation really does happen. There was a case in upstate New York back in the 1980's where a father was treating his teenage daughter as a wife, in every aspect. She finally had enough, being afraid he would start in on her younger sister. Which led to her having a contract put out on him. She spent some time in prison, but not a lot...

"What did her Daddy do?" What did her Mommy do!??! The scene where Daddy comes in late and goes to his daughter's bedroom door, looks down the hall and makes eye contact with his wife is powerful. She says nothing and does nothing to stop him!

So many women are complicit in the abuse of their daughters (or sons) by their husbands/boyfriends, burying their heads in the sand for whatever reason. I can't imagine standing by and allowing something like that to happen to my child! 😢

My favorite Aerosmith track and one of my fave videos of all time. Was in high school when this came out and was interested in filmmaking so this vid blew my mind with the way it's able to juggle multiple POVs and timelines. When I took a Film & Video elective I brought this in to share (yes, I recorded it to VHS) as an example of excellent short-form storytelling; I don't think my classmates were that convinced, but ovbiously I was on to something: the director, David Fincher, has gone on to make numerous award winning films like SEVEN, FIGHT CLUB and THE SOCIAL NETWORK. (At the 1990 MTV VMAs, three of the four nominees for Best Video of the Year were directed by Fincher...ironically, the fourth one won)

Hello Phil and Sam ❤I saw Aerosmith 3 times once dead center around 5th row.. Amazing. I prefer their older music but many bands including Aerosmith had revitalized their music in the 80's and 90's. I like all Aerosmith... But when I listen to their album "Rocks" I'm in heaven.

Steven is such a nice guy he had made fun of himself in various occasions. Check the video for ''Falling in Love (Is Hard on the Knees)'' and listen to the lyrics. He also said once people used to compare him with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones when he was younger and he was thankful for he is one of his music heroes.

Easily one of the most impactful videos from the MTV era. Aerosmith was my first concert back in 1975, and I saw them about ten more times through 2001, and they just kept getting better with their playing and singing, but some of the ballads in the 90's were a little bit cheezy. Their first 4 1/2 albums were awesome, then they had some issues, but got it back together in the mid-80's. So sorry they had to hang it up, due to Steve's vocal problems, but hey, they were in their 70's, they had a pretty damn good run.

I've seen that soundscape at the very beginning (which only lasts a few seconds) listed as a track unto itself, called "Water Song". I personally don't get it, and while I do keep it attached as an intro to the song, I do not credit it in my own indexing, simply for being a brief soundscape. Maybe an Aerofan can explain what that's about? Why is that strange sound called "Water Song" and why is it a "track"?
