Konjo, its up to you... If you feel ashamed of your language its bad, you'll never learn it....Think like this: If a white guy can learn Amharic in 6 months, what's your excuse ? Been in the states since grade school... I know fluent Amharic (Read and write can understand the Bible and Quraan) Some Geez, Some Sidama I read and write Arabic...... Just do it!/

Telisi John i think you wrong. The.alpha-beta drive from ancient tribes like the beja tribe i don't think the current people who called themselves habesha have connection with geez language beside there no archeological and historical and anthropology evidence support for what called themselves habesha. Most of academics said this "habesha" came from bastardize and the habesha meaning bastardize people but the original tribes from ancient time still live in region

The youngsters who have learnt their tigrina speak with more authenticity and confidence and a clearer sense of belonging of the language than the youngsters who have learnt or should I say learning their Amharic. In any case , it was interesting to watch you all having a go at trying to translate phrases in your heritage languages. 🙏🏻

I can say basic words, greetings and phrases in Tigrinya. I struggle with reading and writing Tigrinya. I wish I was fluent, but I'm not. I sometimes wish my parents could have raised me in Eritrea. That way I'd be able to communicate more effectively in Tigrinya... This is a perfect example of how hard it is for Eritreans growing up in the Diaspora.

I recommend you to teach them their language and not lose it(even a little reading), because without the knowledge that would make their future harder if they want to reconnect to their people /culture. Also they should grow up with other habeshas. When they are isolated they lose a little confidence or culture. It's important they have somebody who understands them around. Other than that just support them in education and other things.
