About Priya Basil: Priya grew up in Kenya, returning to the UK to study English ... and the German journalist Matthias -- aka MATTIE -- Fredrich-Auf der Horst, initiated Authors for Peace. but on her website page she does not say his name at all. is she hiding behind soemthing? her bio should read to be honest Priya grew up in Kenya, returning to the UK to study English ... and when her German parnter the journalist Matthias Fredrich-Auf der Horst, invited her to live in Berlin rent free and write her first novel, and then together the two ofthem set up AUTHORS FOR PEACE, why not say his name? is she ashamed to have a lover who is German? Who gave her a rent free time to write her first novel? Is this faux femision and what? Just say this nice German man helped me find me career and now we are lovers for life and the reason we are not married is because...well because why?

Why does Priya sort of hide behind the lie of omission and not say on her bio page anywhere that her "partner" -- she says MY PARNTER WHO'S GERMAN WHY DOESNT SHE SAY HIS NAME ? -- is actually her German lover who is the reporter who Four years ago she moved to Berlin to be with her partner, a German news journalist, named Horst

She is full of complexes. It is not easy to wrote in a foreign language. She is what we call a "coconut", brown on the outside and white inside. She is insulting to her roots in her first "novel". These types write for the white readership. Not on a par with Rusdie or Arundhati Roy.

Well, Dan Bloom, what is your point? If that Mattie, his name produces no hits in wiki, so his activities - according to or against his will - hardly can have had a great publicity, is the man, why should she tell his (complete) name in public? You, at least, seem to be well informed. One could suspect that your a slighted lover or that you have other very personal motives you don't uncover on your part.

Well, London is not a good example, it's a bunch of communities within a big city. I think people should live in integrated neighborhoods.

In a way that's also true for Berlin which even hasn't such an undisputed centre as London, but several centres with a very different character, which may be one of the reasons for the attractivity it has gained since 1990. What about internationality, I'd say the "little big city" Frankfurt (only 700.000 inhabitants), more than the bigger cities of Hamburg, Munich and Cologne, is the other German city that matches - actually outmatches - Berlin even though in a way it's less glamouress and more a commercial centre than a centre of arts. The proportion of foreigner living in Germany is about 10% and Berlin with about 11% percent is only slightly above the average, whereas Frankfurt has a proportion of about 24%, the highest of all major German cities (all these figures don't include naturalized immigrants, by the way). One must say, however, that Berlin in a way still is a devided city and that the Eastern parts outbalance the Western parts.
