If there’s one thing we love here at the McElroy Family, it’s weird 80’s cartoons that are basically lost media. MaxFunDrive ends on March 29, 2024! Support our shows now by becoming a member at maximumfun.org/join

You have to admire the An American Werewolf in London-style fascination with body horror in this children's show.

There was so much more body horror than I imagined there would be

I love how many of Trav’s bits are just infodumping on his latest interest. True ND king 👑💕
@WhiteKnuckleRide51227 күн бұрын
I just hate when he talks about being ND like it defines him. As someone who is legitimately ND myself, it’s incredibly embarrassing

A lesser show would have the main conflict of each episode center around maintaining this secret identity, but Turbo Teen just transforms without a care in the world amd no one ever reacts

Abnimals was one of my favorite MBMBAM bits for the pure nostalgia and this was a great mindtrip too, even though I have no memories of this wild show. I'm all for Travis' Hyperfixation Update to become a recurring feature of the McElroy family productions.

the animators must have been making exclusively tazmanian devil noises after their work week for approx 48 hours

for the amount of times I've heard about Turbo Teen in my life it is very surprising for me to learn that they only made 13 episodes of it

Now I wish I had been in the chat because I was born in 1983 and I definitely watched Turbo Teen on Cartoon Network. The reason is because of DIC! DIC made so many cartoons that they oversold the Saturday Morning timeslot on every channel. They made so many cartoons that the market for them collapsed so in the 90s (When me and the McElboys were kids) Cartoon Network aired Turbo Teen along with a ton of other shows that people born in the 80s really shouldn't remember - Thundar the Barbarian, The Centurions, stuff like that.
@charmurorayznableАй бұрын
Ruby Spears made this show, and the others you mentioned, not DIC. DIC made stuff for syndication, so a couple of their shows might have wound up on CN until the rights were bought by Disney. DIC was responsible for the localized version of Sailor Moon on CN in the 90s.

that was very calming to watch. thanks trav :)

I think the closest we're going to get to a turbo-teen transformation in our modern era of cowardice is the light cycle dive from Tron: Legacy

The time spent on the transition is a lot like the time spent on the sailor moon transition and special moves 😭

USA Cartoon Express! As soon as he wondered about it, I knew it had to be that. I’m around the same age and I remember it was a grab bag of HB and R-S factory seconds
@ScarybugАй бұрын
Yep same! USA Cartoon Express was like Cartoon Network before Cartoon Network. (Specifically Old CN before they had the money to make their own shows and just showed old Hannah Barbara and MGM stuff)

No. Trav. 😱 I was today years old when I found out that Turbo Teen is a real animated series and not just something y’all came up with on the fly, like a brotherly mass hysteria. It’s REAL?! WILD. wild. Who was in charge of this? I have so MANY QUESTIONS! Who wrote this?? I just want to know whose brain child this was.

I'm a few months older than Justin and I remember watching this show on USA Cartoon Express. They didn't need 100 episodes to syndicate it, they just syndicated a bunch of random Ruby Spears and Hannah Barbara Saturday morning cartoons and showed whatever they had randomly for a few hours in an afterschool programming block. This was before Nickelodeon had their own cartoons, Disney was still a premium cable channel, and Cartoon Network wasn't even a glint in Ted Turner's eye (Though USA Cartoon Express can maybe seen as a precursor to Cartoon Network)
