“Polly pocket heroine” haha. Not sure why this needs to be a thing in romance. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Being unable to connect to YA aged characters (especially in high school setting) is also something I'm going through, which sucks when I still have a lot of YA books on my physical TBR that I bought years ago 😬 I'm also curious to see how I'll feel about the STEMist novellas; I was excited for them but I gotta admit your point about all of them being itty bitty tiny heroines kinda annoys me as well lol

I honestly don’t remember anything about the book Something Borrowed, but I love the movie so much! I think for me the reason why I love it so much is because I love stories about shitty friends! I feel like I struggled with toxic female friends and girl drama well into my 20’s, so I eat up any piece of media about it!!

I adore David Sedaris so that was a lovely surprise seeing you rate his book so highly. There hasn't been a single thing that I have ever read by him that wasn't hilarious. You should check out his audiobooks because he reads them himself which makes it extra funny.

Reputation is so good, and one of my favorites. They have Infamous out in the UK now, that will be out in the US very soon, but you can get it on Book Depository. I actually liked it maybe a little more than Reputation. The semi-biographical book they wrote is actually quite good as well, but I have followed them from the advent of their KZbin success to now, so I am a longtime fan of them and their writing. Highly recommend Infamous, however. And giving them a follow on IG, serious dark academia vibes.

It's been a while since I've read them but I remember liking Something Blue (Something Borrowed sequel) a lot more. It's Darcy's POV and it's basically her becoming a better person. But it has been years since I read it so not sure whether it will hold up!

Honestly the Steminist novellas have ruined Ali Hazelwood for me and I'm no longer excited for her next novel because it sounds so similar to the Love Hypothesis and novellas. It feels like everything is the same in these books and I'm disappointed that Ali has become the face of STEM rom coms

I had hoped Something Borrowed would be better than the movie. I was like, "Ok, maybe if I'm inside the heroine's head, I'll get it," but oh I did not. Horrible people doing horrible things isn't really my trope of choice.

I read The Switch by Beth O‘Leary and that was alright but also a bit bland. I think the more I got into romance books the less I started to enjoy „chick lit“ (not a fan of the term). My main gripe with these types of books are the usually boring and one-dimensional love interests.

I liked The No-Show (though The Flatshare is one of my all time favorite books). Layers get unpeeled more and more as you go along. So you think you know what the surprise is, but it is not the only one -- you need to hang with it, because it really does evolve. I DNF'd Reputation, because I feel like it is a typical YA novel shoved into the Regency period. Insecure girl wants to fit into the in crowd, so she goes along with drinking, drugs and snubbing a perfectly nice, but not-so-cool friend. There's even sexual assault thrown in, and resolved in a way that is extremely not of the period, but fits into contemporary YA perfectly. A fine book, but I've seen all those tropes before.

I didn't really love Bringing Down the Duke (I think I also gave it 3 stars) and I really disliked the sequel I also tried (which I gave 1 star). They're not objectively terrible, but I find it so strange that it heavily leans into being feminist books but then they're not truly that feminist. The sequel's title is a play on Virginia Woolf's A Room of One's Own and if you're going to invoke Virginia f-ing Woolf you should really actually go there. Instead of just keeping a lot of the tired gender dynamics. It felt like such a missed opportunity to actually subvert some gender tropes and ideas, if you're gonna go down that route to begin with!

I absolutely hated "The No Show" - I didn't connect with any of the characters and I didn't enjoy the twist. It's a shame because I enjoyed The Flatshare and The Switch but the two following books - The Road Trip and The No Show I really did not enjoy at all - I stared them very very low

I liked third the best, even though i read them in order. But true, small delicate framed heroines get on your nerve pretty quick. There are other sized women in STEM. Still I appreciate the series. Smart women supporting each other, finding love.
