What I find really strange, and disturbing is that having money and buying art apparently makes one knowledgeable on art?... And that it then qualifies you to curate exhibitions?... And that galleries and auction houses will allow it? Very strange.
@kingy0023 жыл бұрын
It is about marketing for the galleries. They want people, who are considered celebrities, to inspire others to come into the market. Nothing strange about it at all. Art is created out of thin air. Russell's comments on art are as valid as anyone else's.

Why do we care what Russell Tovey thinks? Was Carrot Top unavailable?
@davidmernick73603 жыл бұрын
I imagine the art podcast he produces and the large art collection he keeps makes him a little more notable when it comes to art than someone like Carrot Top.
@jasonkwatkins3 жыл бұрын
@@davidmernick7360 He’s pretty and he’s rich and that’s the only reason Sotheby’s cares about him. Perfect metaphor for the art market.
@robertjohnson16023 жыл бұрын
He's gay but his appeal crosses over to the hetro market and Sotheby's probably want a now person to generate the interest. It would seem an almost typical choice.

5:08 That could be the background for my artwork, but I would NEVER consider that as a piece of artwork, how can you???!!! I would call that a decorative object instead. If you like art that doesn't make you knowledgeable on art.

@@georgealderson4424 expression that lifts the soul and/or stimulates the mind in an edifying way.
@georgealderson44243 жыл бұрын
@@samjames2552 Edifying eh? Mmm! Since we all have different morals and require different stimulants it seems to follow in that case that art is open to wide interpretations. Like wine people can talk about it and seem errudite to some and trite to others.
@samjames25523 жыл бұрын
@@georgealderson4424 There are standards that are obviously higher than others that cannot be discounted while those espousing an opinion that clearly is either uneducated or unenlightened should be called out! It’s not as if there is not a standard that can be universally agreed-upon. You appear to believe that everything is subjective… That is not true.
