1978-12-18 One can still hear the colors emanating from the music today

Why oh why isn't this available commercially? The grind at the beginning of New Feeling is stellar.

The bootleg version of this Promo Lp is plentiful. Worth buying. It should be a Record Store Day reissue, probably the best Talking Heads lp of all time that was never released.

Love bands that, when playing live, pay homage to the songs they slaved over in the studio.

I got the LP originally. Paid £35 in the early eighties! Turned out to be a counterfeit. Played fine but was not one of the limited batch originally printed. Great live recording of TH just prior to Fear of Music. Great versions of Take Me To The River, New Feeling, Girls want to Be with The Girls and Electricity.

Had this on vinyl for years until a flatmate sold it (unknown to me).

This needs more views, one of the best versions of Psycho Killer ever.

do you reckon its Byrne or Harrison playing the left-channel guitar? has to be Jerry I reckon - actually scratch that, I don't reckon Byrne would allow someone to show out like that. If its Byrne then that version of Psycho Killer is just about his finest moment as a guitarist

David is an interesting guitarist for sure...like Gibby from the butthole Surfers.. when he plays he surprises you....but make no mistake Jerry Harrison was hired because he brought a good solid guitar and keyboard lead player instincts to this band. I have this LP as a bootleg without Take me to the river on it. It was always my favorite of all their albums becasue it just has an energy to it that they dont duplicate anywhere else. I too have tried to figure out just who is playing what on this record and it is difficult. I totally agree with you about Psycho killer. Best version ever.. as is warning sign... this is just a dang good record all the way around

Byrne really let his guitar playing slip over time, just seemed less and less interested in utilizing himself as a guitarist - he was limited, but limitations and boundaries very much defined Talking Heads, and I reckon a lot of the songs on the first two albums would've started with Byrne's guitar noodlings. Artists Only is a good one to examine of his; really simple, effective riff (simple always = *I* can play it so it must be!) - then the chords on the verses are a touch quirky before he basically fakes a few minutes of hero-type guitar. Like everything with Byrne, he was clever in getting a lot out of his limitations. Harrison was clearly the only 'real' musician in the band; he understood music theory - his guitar playing is generally really understated, but sometimes deceptively tricky, I'm thinking of his relentless parts on '...With our Love' and 'I Zimbra' ... anyway thanks for the reply, interesting subject imo :-)

I think guitars are stereo balanced with Jerry right and David left .. surprised sometimes with the playing of Jerry and the two guitars are really complementary

@@chemistryset1 yeah, no, it's David; Jerry almost always did the backing parts; it is a great one, but the one from Berklee in '79 is epic, and later

I have a cassette of this same concert of the Talking Heads Live at the Cleveland Agora but it is starting to wear over time then this came along. Have to agree with someone else's comment that there seems to be a lot of energy in this recording. Thanks, Skanjohnny!
