This was the last time the Talking Heads ever performed, and will probably be the last time the group ever performs. David Byrne has notoriously refused to reunite with the band, citing bad blood. I saw an interview with Chris Frantz where he point-blank asked him to reunite, and Byrne supposedly yelled at him, "I'm never reuniting the Talking Heads." Such a shame.

@roebuckmckinney
@roebuckmckinney 3 жыл бұрын
@@MustangRed1967 In between Remain in Light and Speaking in Tongues, David dicked around the rest of the band on some song publishing and Tina and Chris turned around and made a huge hit record on their own that eclipsed Talking Heads' previous success. After that, David couldn't push them around anymore and he's a control freak, so the band relationship started to crumble from that point forward.
@ChorusArtists
@ChorusArtists 3 жыл бұрын
The thing is, the other three founding members don't have the same musical chops that Byrne has. They often couldn't competently play what he heard in his head. I think that's the main reason this was the last TH set. The "bad blood" is over that fact. Byrne always brought in people like Fripp or Eno to help support his musical vision. The other 3 were punk musicians, and eventually that didn't cut it. Great albums though, and Byrne's last tour was one of the best shows I've ever seen.
@aprildeann3637
@aprildeann3637 3 жыл бұрын
@@ChorusArtists um no. The band existed before David, they found him and asked him to join. I suggest you do your research. Every member of Talking Heads is a great musician in their own right. Tina and Chris were listening to and being influenced by jazz, funk, and soul way before David ever came along. Tom Tom Club is an amazing band in its own right. The bad blood at least party came from the fact that other band members weren't being given credit for stuff they clearly collaborated on. The narrative of Talking Heads being purely David's brain child simply isn't true. Oh, and even if the other 3 members were just "punk" musicians, why would that matter? The narrative that punk bands can't play their instruments isn't true either.

What i really liked the best about Remain in Love, is that besides all the great band stories from the road, Chris talks about how the music was made. And some trivia: This song did not make it to #1 (which it should have) because "Every Breath You Take" from the Police stayed at #1 on Billboard for, 16 weeks straight! Yes, you can look it up. 16 weeks. It could have been in the top 5, but the Police dominated that spot for an eternity. Amazing.

Have been watching this through again - beef between Byrne & Waymouth is there. No idea why. Both total professionals. Tina is into the reunion, David looks like he's caught in the headlights but closing off everything else but the performance, which is exceptional. Kind of wish they could all be friends afterwards - not saying they aren't just looking at body language during the clip. Hope that's the case. They went from cover band to mega-stardom. Not a lot of people you can share that with. Love them!

While I agree they were clearly rusty and not gelling well, I suspect there were also technical issues. Like, Bernie Worrell's timing was all off, and he clearly knows it because you can see him actually *yank* the monitors out of his ears at the start of his keyboard solo. Which is never a good sign.
