Talking Victory Plan, Facing Defeat

Why does president Zelensky talk about a Victory Plan, whereas on the ground Ukrainian army is in full retreat? What do the Western leaders mean when they say "The axis of Evil"? Do they intend to fight a war with Russia? Will Bden grant permission to hit interior of Russia? Will Putin respond with similar strikes at US assets? These are the questions discussed here in the context of Zelensky's domestic position, changing attitudes in Europe and realities of military capabilities on the ground.
Dr.Brovkin is an American historian, now retired, who was born in the USSR and came to the USA in the 1970s, became a professor of Soviet History at Harvard University. He is the author of several books on Russian history featured at the end of the video. His latest book featured here is: From Vladimir Lenin to Vladimir Putin. Bravo Doctor! The purpose of attrition as a military strategy has been to continuously wear down the Ukrainian offensive into a defensive position. Americans seem to ignore the fact that Russia has many Ukrainians that are patriots for Russia so scorched earth has not been Russia's policy. The US election is significant in the public's perceptions of a Ukrainian victory, so it is my guess that Russia will move on Odessa before Kiev on the eve of the election. The far Western provinces of Ukraine should be returned to Poland, Slovakia and Hungary...

No it is not internal opposition to that peace offer, that defeated it. The west would not allow Zelenskiiy to surrender the east. That is where the value to the west is, and it has leveraged it to the hilt in europe. That is especially the case with the UK, France and Germany who are already having to take serious budgetary measures to try to cover their liabilities. The other EU states just expect these bigger boys and the US to bail them out in due course.

Concerning the political dynamic in France in particular, Macron and the forces around the interests he represent used the 'threat of engaging official French troops directly on the ground in the conflict on the territory Ukraine as largely a domestic political operation to drive a wedge among the social democrats on one side and the conservatives on the other with the objective of isolating to extreme right and the left hoping tho catalyze the a movement of support toward hid party. The operation completely failed and hence he nor anyone else speaks of it any longer. It was an operation to instrumentalize the war in this way for his very direct domestic political benefit. But failed miserably
