I was the kid at 1:18:55!!! I've been a life-long fan of Kate's books, since my first grade teacher read us Mercy Watson books as a class. I still remember finding The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane in the school library that same year and devouring it by flashlight in my bed that night and being mesmerized. Funny story- it was in the big kid's section, which I was only allowed in since I had already read everything in the younger kid's section! I had actually met Kate once before- in 2016, when she came to a Barnes & Noble in my state to sign copies of Raymie Nightingale. My dad surprised me with the book first, but before I could run off to finish it, he told me that I would get the chance to meet her. I remember bursting into tears, and I don't think I stopped crying that night. I was the first in line, and I still have the books she signed for me proudly displayed on my shelf. "For Ellie!" She put an exclamation point after my name, which made a young, shy, extremely neurodivergent child feel so, so important. Honestly, looking at them now, I can still feel that feeling. My love of reading has been dulled over the years by a multitude of health problems, mental and physical, which took time to cure, but I still get that giddiness every time she comes out with a new story. With The Beatryce Prophecy, I've actually been learning to drive, so I made my Mom come to a bookstore with me so I could buy a copy, and then I read it (twice!) while she drove me home. I also bought a second, signed copy at the event, and am planning to donate the first copy to my teacher, who read me Mercy Watson way back when. This interview was amazing. Kate was amazing! I look up to her so much, and to be able to sit in a theater and just listen to her speak for an hour and a half- oh! I'm so lucky! I'm so glad this is on KZbin so I can always remember it! Thank you! P.S: I am so glad the camera wasn't on me when she thanked me because I was tearing up something feirce!

This is everything. Kate speaks so honestly. I love her bravery and good humour. This is a deep interview session, and she handles it with immense grace.

Oh Kate DeCamillo. We just adore you. Every word placed so gently and thoughtfully. We stepped outside tonight to listen to the stars sing while eating jelly beans and dreaming of toast. We thought we saw Edward in the stars with a slight grin. And then two playful seahorses. And last but not least, an elephant falling ever so slowly with Despereaux swinging from his tail. Did we rush inside to find many friends and a great deal of butter waiting for our stack of toast? Yes. Yes we did.
