A comment about "Amount of coding": I find a good way to stay in touch with the code AND the team is to avoid actually writing code myself (I often become a bottleneck). Instead I pair program and do code reviews when ever I'm not in a meeting. That way I can keep taps on what is going on, have good dialogue about the code and how it evolves with the other developers.
