Such a timely video, I've just started a new job after 5 years in the first job I had after uni. Very much feeling like the ''new girl''. I know I'm a competent worker, but I definitely don't feel very competent right now! I think I'd forgotten how long it takes to build relationships with people and to just know how to do your job... I think it's also really hard going from a team where you are well respected, to having to prove your worth all over again. So I hear you! Hang in there.

Congrats on getting the new job :) and I totally agree with Will. I left a job after 6 years there and it was.. it seems hard at first, but it feels amazing when you finally do it! Habits and fear rule us far too often, just kick them in the arse and enjoy the new ride! You are going to ace it!

Congratulations! When starting new things, I like to imagine it's the beginning of a novel or one of those fun chick flick films, like maybe Confessions of a Shopaholic or something. It makes everything feel less daunting, I think. 💜

There's definitely a line of security and comfort that comes with a job that you've been with for a long time. It can sometimes be scary to step away from "all that you've known" and try something new. But honestly, very few people wind up regretting that decision to step out. You got to do what makes you happy in life and brings you joy. Because if you're not happy, then can you say you're truly living? You'll succeed at your new job, I just know it! =)

Good luck with the new job!! It does seem scary now but it will be for the best, I'm sure you'll settle in quickly. It sounds like you've had a similar start to the year to me. I changed jobs in January after being really miserable in my last job. It was causing me so much stress. I was there 2.5 years, straight out of university and I was really scared about starting all over again because so much I knew seemed so specific to that job and that company. Although I'm still learning exactly how they do things at the new place, I was relieved to find how much was transferable and I was able to just jump in to a lot of things. I'm so glad I moved on, I'm so much happier.

I liked this honest video. I totally did that the other week - i text my friend and just said "I'm having a shit day I need some of your positivity in my life" and my friend text back straight away and we ended up watching Dirty Dancing and drinking wine and it just gave me a chance to unwind. This feels so relevant to me right now. I'm in my first job after graduating, something I sort of rushed into because everyone around me was pushing me to get a job as soon as possible. Since I started I've had numerous points where I've just felt miserable and wanted to leave but I kept telling myself it was too soon. Now I'm comfortable that I've waited long enough, but I'm making very slow progress -- I've been sending applications but heard no news back.

I actually just got a job as well, for after I graduate, and I had the same experience of not thinking I had done well enough in the interview. Didn't feel real for at least a day - I thought I was going to get a panicked email that it was all a terrible mistake. Good luck finishing up and starting at the new place! You're gonna smash it!

I know how you feel, I'm starting a new job in a moth as well and I'm so scared I won't be very good at it (it's one of those summer, work everyday for two months up to 10-11 hours a day, jobs), but my best friend is coming with me and that makes everything so much easier! Related alot to this video! THanks for sharing. I've been in the same job since uni - for 7 years. Well, same company, but different jobs there. The problem is that everyone else here (its a small company) is so loyal to the company and has been here for 10+ years. My supervisor, whose job I'm basically being trained to eventually take over has been here for 20 years! Its hard to think of leaving even when sometimes I feel like I want to. But then I think about all the perks of this job and I dunno its hard to imagine leaving. I'd love to hear about how the transition goes!

You'll be fine if you really really want the job. :-) I changed my job last year, left publishing after 14 years and changed my career completely, now working in human resource management and career counselling. It all went fine, I'm very happy. Just remember to make some time for rest. You need a lot of rest when you change jobs.
