Thanks! I really enjoyed your explanation of the tri-tone interval and how you're using it. I used to play jazz piano a bit and I love to look at bass playing from a harmonic/chordal point of view.

Your nemesis (Scott's Bass Lessons) is always throwing these in and they sound great but he's never quite explained how to do it (or more importantly the theory behind it). My favourite lesson of yours so far, I'm trying it in different keys and all sorts, really opened up some new sounds for me, thanks mate!

"Tri-tone intervals. They might sound evil but in the right context they are, uh, really good."
@PietroRumenta7 жыл бұрын
Great job! However, I wouldn't have put on active pick-ups instead of the good old Fener Split-Coil, but that is a matter of personal taste. Say, did you put some mutes under the bridge cover? I hear the tone is quite unusual. I was going to buy some mutes for my Jazz Bass, but then I got a Rick, which came from the factory with default mutes and I am very happy already.

@dlmblodgett8 жыл бұрын
So the notes you're going to at the beginning of the riff after the root are the flat 7ths of the chords correct? Since they are dominant 7ths.
@johnfollis23579 жыл бұрын
I love this little bass line. Nice. Mark. My SilverTone bass has only 20 frets. Is there anyway that I could get an extension of some sort that might try to simulate 24 frets? If not, it is what it is. I love full two octave necks. Nevertheless, tri-tones on any bass or any instrument are just nasty sounding on there own. Lol. And I am trying to find songs from Cannibal Corpse where Alex Webster plays chords on bass. Just something about when playing a bunch of root notes in a bass line and then throwing some chords enhances the sound of the music overall.

can I only apply the tri tones only to Dominant 7 Chords? What if we're playing a pop song that goes from G to C?
@talkingbasslessons7 жыл бұрын
Yes, the tritone has to be present in the chord. If the pop song is G to C and only using G major to C major then you have to be careful. They might be dominant 7 chords or implied dominant 7 chords if it has a bluesy/rocky kind of feel. So in that situation they will work. You have to know the general tonality of the tune. That said, you could just try putting them in there. If they sound OK then go with it.

What's the bridge guard for? More over, what are pickup (string?) guards for? I mean, the string will wear the components out anyway and they're not too likely to break from impact.
@talkingbasslessons9 жыл бұрын
+Mezurashii5 I think on the original 50s Precision the bridge guard was originally connected to the earth wire from the pickups (instead of the bridge) and the pickup cover was there for stopping any accidental pushing against the pole pieces. They also added a load of chrome aesthetic appeal. The Bridge cover also housed the rubber mutes that gave that upright imitation sound. These days I think they're just for the retro vintage vibe. I used to love having the pickup cover on my Marcus Fender Jazz but it limited me too much in terms of available tones. The bridge cover on this P bass is useful as a hand rest when playing with a plectrum and I also just like the look. Nice shiny curves rather than the old square bridge.
@Mezurashii59 жыл бұрын
TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons Thanks, I was thinking it's for show now, just didn't know the origins. Curves are much nicer on an instrument for the most part.
@andrewlwatts9 жыл бұрын
+TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons I think the pickup covers were there for electromagnetic shielding, because the original pickups were prone to picking up interference.
