Great Lesson...although it would have been very helpful if you had demonstrated the chord on the bass as you talked about. Difficult to do, but would have helped to wire in the application of the chord theory to the physical location on bass. cheers.

Excellent tutorial, even if somewhat complicated - but that's music! I would have appreciated an explanation as to why these complex chords exist and what and when they're used, rather than basics ones or simple 7s. Perhaps that will come in future tutorials..

With Slash I understand to play the note after the slash. However as an added note I can play the note before the slash. Does it matter which note I play first and which is the lowest note I play?

Does Cm6 have a major or minor sixth added? i.e. is it implying Dorian or Aeolian tonality? Never been quite sure on this.
@talkingbasslessons

Major 6th. It's Dorian tonality.

+TalkingBass - Online Bass Lessons Thank you! You are a wealth of knowledge! So now I'm wondering, how would a minor chord with added minor 6th be written? Or is that chord not generally played due to the minor 6th being a semitone above the fifth?
@talkingbasslessons
@talkingbasslessons 8 жыл бұрын
It could be written as Cmaddb13 or a Cb6! But it's not really a chord you see in common use. This is where chord symbols show their limitations.

On guitar a minor 6 note would actually ba an augmented chord, as you suggested. A minor triad with added major 6 note, doesn't sound good. Could have a place though.

So the bass parts would not be using the bass clef?

Does a C triangle mean - C E G Bb or C E G? Because at times I've heard its C E G Bb instead of JUST the Triad.
@Anorexiaification
@Anorexiaification 6 жыл бұрын
C triangle means Cmaj7, so its more like C E G B, not Bb.

how are minor flat five and diminshed different?
@talkingbasslessons
@talkingbasslessons 8 жыл бұрын
Diminished triad - 1 b3 b5, m7b5 - 1 b3 b5 b7, dim7 - 1 b3 b5 bb7 (also written as 6) If you need any help with the chord construction check out the music theory for bass series on the lesson map over at talkingbass.net

So dim7 stacks only flat thirds. Where minor flat five stacks two minor one major? Seems to make the senses
@talkingbasslessons
@talkingbasslessons 8 жыл бұрын
+Tom Whitcombe yeah that's pretty much it. Both m7b5 and dim7 are built from diminished triad. Try to see them as building blocks.

Minor7b5 has a minor seventh instead of a flatted seventh (diminished seventh on Minor which is on Diminished7 Chord). I am myself ... distorted and... intimidated with all this but thats a basic difference.
