Ha-Seong Kim would be a perfect add and not super expensive. They can afford to wait for him to get healthy and he would really improve the lineup when he comes back. He can play all over the infield.

As a jays fan it’s insane to see anyone is upset with this offseason. Without over investing in one player, the starting pitching got better, bullpen got better. Jazz and Jasson can go off. Goldy is a perfect Rizzo swap and will probably outperform him. With that park, Belli’s swing could produce 40hrs. A+ work by Cashman

I've always thought Ke'Bryan Hayes would be a great fit on the hot corner in the Bronx. He makes like $8.5 mill/year and plays gold glove defense. I don't think he would cost a lot to get off the Pirates. This move can push Jazz over to 2nd. It solidifies the defense onnthe left side of your IF. It's not a crazy flashy move but one I think that makes a lot of sense

At least you have a good sense of humor and can joke about the stupid Judge to dropping the ball jokes. As a Mets fan, I have to say that some of us are smart baseball people and realize Judge is one of the best hitters of all time and definitely the current best hitter in MLB. It's a more well rounded team. I would guess that leads to more consistency in general. How that translates to win total or playoff performance is tricky. It's not easy to translate replacing an A+++ offensive weapon with several other pieces that do a bunch of different things at an above average to very good level.

Enough about Soto-we didn’t get him not because we didn’t try-enter Steve Cohen who would have given Soto a $900m (or more) deal if he had to. He wasn’t going to lose out on Soto no matter what. Brings us to now: I think we need to nail down a solid 3B now who can also hit via trade or FA (no trotting out DJ, Peraza, etc.). To me that equals lost games down the road. Rotation & pen improved but would like to add a lefty reliever.

I think the answer right now is no, we are not better without Soto. We are more well rounded, and don’t have as many holes in the lineup, but overall we aren’t quite as good. Add a few bullpen pieces (cheap guys) and someone in the infield that’s an upgrade over the DJ/Cabrera/? platoon and I think we are better. I think, on the whole, the overall team got slightly better just because they improved in other aspects of the game aside from offense, and only got slightly worse offensively. However, they still need to get someone solid to play third. I think they'll win the AL, and wind up facing the Dodgers again in the WS. I have a feeling that Goldy will improve from last season just because he's playing for a team that has a chance. Seemed like St. Louis was a bit toxic last season.

We just need to be patient. Our team is good enough for the American League with the trade deadline to fine tune the team. That’ll give our minor leagues an opportunity to build additional trading pieces if necessary. Trading Stroman for $ is fine but don’t include any valuable pieces to move him. His first half stats are great, so worst case scenario we keep him and he allows us to limit early innings on Gil and Schmidt. Not sure we can acquire enough of a 2nd baseman or 3rd baseman to provide greater value for the team until the trade deadline

Why wouldn't they make sure that ALL opening day games are either in warm weather states or at stadiums that can go indoors? LAA @ CWS should be the opposite & SF @ CIN prob could be switched as well. If you broke up series like OAK @ SEA and ATL @ SD, it gives you four teams that could instead host on Opening Day. I'd also consider neutral sites for some games but with the weather as it is in March, makes more sense to move the schedule back to at least April 1st

I thought about this a while ago also. I don’t think there are enough warm weather/ domes to cover 100% of the series but you can avoid a lot of them definitely. I do agree they’re definitely more well rounded, but Soto and judge can both single handedly power a lineup and having them protect one another in a battery it becomes substantially harder to get through. The lineup even with bregman could still be pretty paltry without Judge being on. I do expect belli/bregman to be ~115 ops+, but there’s not really any other stable above average bats in the lineup. They’re certainly in a good place in terms of playoff success just because the pitching could be mowing down everything potentially, but we could not even bring in Bregman. It also seems to block the biggest upswing we might get in Martian hitting. DJ is almost certainly getting an everyday job 1B is filled and Bregman would push Jazz to the third OF slot.

As a Cub fan Belli got too into being a 2 strike hitter and trying to go the other way. It's almost like his plate approach to start a PA was to try to just punch the ball oppo with 2 strikes instead of trying to pull the ball earlier in the count. So I hope in Yankee Stadium for your sakes Belli goes back to trying to pull the ball. He had the 2nd lowest pull % (behind his rookie year) and highest oppo % of his career last year.

If Volpe, Wells, or Dominguez contribute more they will be better. Not even counting the upgrade from Rizzo to Goldy

I say it’s evens, Goldy will flounder Cody will be solid but will feel like an overpay, staff will lose wins with the questionable bullpen but the defense will be average at least and the base running will almost be mediocre! LCS loss in 7 to the Tigers, book it draft sponsor to the podcast!

Devin Williams is a solid addition but he needs a slider or cutter. He's susceptible. Max Fried reminds a little of Tom Glavine. When healthy, he's very effective. WHIP-meister.

@ being washed from an mvp is better than absolute negative stats and no production. His worst year is twice as useful as what the Yankees played at first all last year

If you did a little research there’s a 0% chance the Yankees sign Bregman because in doing so would cost them draft picks and international bonus pool money

Brandon Lowe for 2B and Jazz to 3B would really help offensively... but Jazz is not very good defensively at 3b. Lowe is solid at 2B but not a ton of range and is injury prone. Arenado is expensive, decling, old & RHH. Bohn is not good defensively and he is not well thought of in the clubhouse. Eugenio Suarez could be had & is good defensively with power, but Ks like 200 times & doesn't walk much (also older & RHH). DJ & Oswaldo may be what is the final option. Yoan Moncada on an 1 year make-good incentive laddden deal might be a real option (VERY injury prone). Good defensively, switch hitter & he is only 30. Attitude is a question but he may rise to the occasion with the Yankees. Ha-Seong Kim would be great, but might be too expensive.

This front office hasn't gone all in since they built the new stadium, since then it's been about doing just enough. The results have spoken to that every year. 2024 being the biggest example with bringing in soto and basically stopping knowing it wasn't enough. Same thing this year...same thing next year. Not being cynical, just reading the T leaves

Overall the team is “better.” The defense is better without Soto, Judge can move back to right, a full season of Jazz will be good and Fried is an awesome addition. Offensive production will be down no doubt without Soto and Torres. Will be interesting to see how they make up for him in the aggregate through Goldschmidt, Bellinger, etc.
@jsmitty2047
@jsmitty2047 17 күн бұрын
Offense definitely is not better, it’s close to same because it’s more spread out. If Belli returns to ‘23 form and Dominguez is what we think and Jazz steps up, offense could surpass what we were. Also need 1 more bat, maybe Oswaldo and Peraza can figure it out…DJ is past gone I think.

Pitching got better. Defense got better, but Fried got destroyed by the Dodgers in the 2020 NLCS. Snell is so much better in the postseason than Fried. Who is going to score against the Dodgers and who is going stop the Dodgers from scoring? I wouldn't be surprised if the Rangers come back and take out the Yankees. Each year is different. Injuries and other things can change a season. On paper, the Dodgers are the Alpha team right now.

When you put the lineup down on paper and compare it to other top teams, it isn't an especially impressive list. Maybe againt the AL it compares well, but against the NL, it doesn't look good.

Fried is Carlos Rodon 2.0. He won't really make the rotation that much better. He isn't an ace. He's going to wish he was still pitching in those giant NL ballparks. Won't be nearly as good in the AL bam boxes.

Bellinger has a .211 batting average in the postseason. Great defensively but he’s not gunna be your #3 hitter in the playoffs. One of the reasons the dodgers didn’t pay him

4 positions were bottom of the league production wise in 24: LF, SS, 1st, 3rd. CF production will go down drastically, SS likely won’t improve much, 1st/3rd/LF will be WAY better if they are even just league average
