That was an all time great example of a bottle episode. It's the episode I most hear used to explain what a bottle episode is, one where they need to save budget so film it all in one spot, but use it to tell a story that develops the characters in ways they couldn't otherwise. The Jomboy episode is something they've been doing the last 2-3 years. It's weird, but fun.

Max Fried and Devin Williams are clear pitching upgrades. The lineup is worse without Soto unless both Oldschmidt and Bellinger have MVP-level years. Defense might be slightly better but that's usually more about coaching and team attitude rather than adding a couple of good defenders. Overall the Yanks are maybe slightly better than 2024?

I do not think it clear that the Yankees are the best team. They have no above average second baseman, no above average third baseman who will hit better than Jazz Chisholm Jr and he was not a good enough hitter last year and may wind up at 2nd base by default. The Yanks are taking a flyer on a possibly washed up Paul Goldschmidt at first base. They still do not know how Jason Dominquez will play in MLB as a full time starter in LF. They still need another good contact bat from a infielder at third base but Cashman does not seem to want to shell out significant money to obtain a good hitting third baseman. So rationally they are not the best team and are relining upon improved pitching rotation and new closer to keep them in the race, and the hope that the Martian will play out of this world as he was projected when he was in the minors. They also hope that DJ LeMahue will have a rebound season and play some significant role in the infield. Volpe at SS also needs to improve as a hitter. TOO MANY QUSTIONS ON THIS TEAM. They are one dangerous hitter short, even after adding Bellinger to play center, in my view. Austin wells is a good catcher but not a feared or great hitter.

the sasaki to toronto thing gained credibility because he actually went there to meet them. your marlins comparison is inaccurate, sasaki didn't need to tell the marlin's they're out because he never met with them. blue jays would be different since so far, if sasaki isnt interested in going to a team he met with, he has told them he's not going there. evidently, the 3 remaining teams from that list are dodgers, padres and blue jays. he's going to san diego though.
