UK Should Take “As Many” Asylum Seekers “As Is Necessary”

Talk’s Peter Cardwell is joined by Asylum Matters director Louise Calvey to debate the UK’s migration crisis.
It comes after Speaking Sir Keir Starmer said a Labour government would expand counter-terror powers to cover people-smuggling gangs and create a new Border Security Command to co-ordinate efforts to halt the crossings.
His comments came as figures showed more than 9,000 migrants have arrived in the UK after crossing the Channel so far this year.
In a message to smuggling gangs, he said: “These shores will become hostile territory for you - we will find you. We will stop you. We will protect your victims with the Border Security Command. We will secure Britain’s borders.”

First, if a country determines what is considered to be a 'safe county', it innately isn't taking into consideration the asylum seeker's individual circumstances and negates THEIR safety concerns. Secondly, you can only return an asylum seeker to another country IF THAT COUNTRY AGREES TO ACCEPT THEM. There has to be a treaty / agreement between the two countries before such a return can happen; otherwise, the return is prohibited by international and EU law (refoulement). .

Starmer's solution to the migrant problem is to just let everybody in regardless of their status, whether they are here legally or not and to grant them asylum, residency whatever. What that will mean is a horrendous increase in the pressures on all services which are already at crisis point or beyond. Where will thousands of people who arrive every week live, how are we going to pay for them. Our hospitals, health services will get immensely worse through the pressure of sheer numbers demanding attention. Schools will be swamped with children who have little or no education and cannot speak English and will thus take up nearly all the time of the teachers. We already have terrible problems with the knife culture which has invaded this country, we are seeing a re-emergence of many serious illnesses that were previously eradicated in this country now sweeping the population because of the huge numbers of immigrants who have had no vaccinations and many refuse to be vaccinated because of a culture of fear in their own country.

@@MrRailjunkie it was Labour who created the problem in the first place with Blair and Campbell wanting to rub the rights noses in diversity. It was Starmer who has repeatedly opposed and fought against every measure to curb immigration. It is the civil service and leftie immigration lawyers who have thwarted and grown fat off the back of delaying repeatedly dealing with immigration applications or appealing against every rejection. Nothing to do with the Tories.

@@MrRailjunkie The whole problem was started by TonyBlair/Alistair Campbell. Starmer will let everyone in and grant them asylum just so he can say he has fixed the system and there are no backlogs. It is was not for the Labour Party fighting everything the Tories have tried to do to control immigration. The leftie civil service and House of Lords also put up barriers and obstacles to implementing all asylum controls. The system is broken by left wing opposition to any controls on immigration because it is against their mantra to destroy this country.

OH SHUT IT ALREADY. Im a immigrant.. and i had to jumps through hoops and pay fees and go send my paperwork in order with forms every 2years if not every year.. im from Africa and ulive managed to find a route..sure it took me a long time and i had to work 80 + hours a week for years and years but im a women and i did it. If they died in the channel ..that was there CHOICE.. their action, their consequences
