President Joe Biden blamed jet lag for his poor performance in last week's debate, telling reporters he was "not very smart" because he "travelled around the world a few times" before the debate.

Biden, 81, concluded his most recent trip on June 15, nearly two weeks before the June 27 debate. The President's comments came amid panic in his party about his mental state ahead of the November election, with a Texas congressman calling for him to step down after becoming the first Democrat to do so following a debate.
