My father was dying of prostrate cancer. And before he died British gas sent him a bill of 6 grand. And you know why the gas bill went up to 70 quid. Labour hiked up energy prices. They have removed. The Tories cap on council tax hikes. Now councils can legally hike up council tax. 15 percent. And by the way none of my fathers gas appliances worked and he used only a small electric oven. And a electric immersion heater no gas and every month he paided his gas bills every month

Your local public library is open around 40 hours per week. That would help if you went there. if things are unbearable at home. I am also dependent on the state pension and cannot identify with your tale. One can eat well for £1,500 per annum and heat an average-sized UK home well for £2,000 per annum. We were encouraged to install solar panels. I have 4000 watts of panel in my roof. Yesterday they generated one unit of electricity in the whole period between dawn and dusk. In mid summer on the best day they generated 26 units. As I write (11.00 am) the generated power flow is 187 watts. If the sun stays out and bright for 5 hours I might manage one unit towards my power needs - enough to run a 2kW fan heater for half an hour.

That will be warm and you can read newspapers (free) and thousands of books that you do not need to carry around either. Take a flask of tea or coffee and some sarnies and you will be well away. Barbados twice a year on the savings. And, if you are lonely there will be other like-minded people there. Join the club. I’ve never scrounged any benefits from the government all the 44 I worked paid my taxes and have never been on the dole or receiving benefits. All for what? In the end just because my entitlements go over threshold by minimum amount I am denied my winter fuel payment. I worked as a nurse in the ‘80s and I dreaded winter. Our wards will get packed with elderly patients who were suffering from hypothermia. I dreaded it because very, very few would last the night. They were dying in their droves because they could not afford to heat their houses. Public service announcements were put out by the government in desperation telling people how to keep warm (wear lots of layers, drink hot tea and soups etc). Then came the heating allowance. The numbers of patients admitted over winter due to hypothermia dropped tenfold. The lives that were saved outweighed the cost to the taxpayer. I didn’t mind that. Now this government has done this - SIR Kier Stalin has blood on his hands, what he has done is unconscionable!

If we mention those hard times, we are mocked and reviled.I often wonder how these unfeeling people would have coped back then? However we were able to fight against unheated homes etc when we had our strength, as we age with the best will in the world, we become powerless to face today's challenging government. How much money is saved by depriving older people of their rightful winter payments? Yes, find a way to stop the wealthier pensioners from receiving the payments, but for God's sake, have some empathy Labour tyrants and stop blaming the fictitious black hole.

I will, indeed..... we have an elderly neighbour across my road . We have known for many years. And are good friends. We take him shopping or get things he rings us up to get for him when we go shopping or not . Take him to the hospital if needed . We had our trees down last winter and gave our neighbour all the wood for his log burner. We also take meals over if I cook extra . Or have him over ours. For a meal and a chat. It brings me comfort that we are looking out for him . Kindness doesn't cost a thing.

Check up on this, several vids on KZbin explaining the new law. The DWP will from January have the ability to check accounts for spending abroad, unusual additions or large amount spent you may be asked to explain yourself, this includes pensions that will now be classed as a benefit.

I’m a reasonably fit 76 year old who who does power lifting at the Gym 4 times a week and have done since 1976, ie 404 lb dead lifts 300 lb plus Squats , Farmers walks with 110 lb dumbbells in each hand and I’ve been bloody cold all day, God knows how the frail and elderly have been,it’s absolutely disgusting.

Just heard broadcast today about dispersal of immigrants to unidentified local hotels with only 2 hours notice to Local council. Council proud to report that they have lots of experience in dealing with this issue and listed the services required... Social services, public health in case of infections, health and safety, health services doctors and dentists, school places.... Etc. Let's ignore the rest of the population

After 4 months of Labour I thought we should have a look at their results. When they took over inflation was 1.7% now its 2.3%. Unemployment is up plus 200,000 jobs lost in the North Sea, Bankruptcies up 67% on last year, Growth collapsed to Zero, Pensioners looking forward to a freezing Winter, 35,000 illegal's arrived and housed in Hotels with heating and 3 meals a day, Bus costs up 50%, Trains up 16%, Higher Education costs up 13%, Council Tax up at least 5%, The Chancellor lied to get the job and it transpired she was never an Economist but a fiddling Secretary. That's just the start, if you have a job look after it, they are going to be in short supply, mass unemployment coming.

It is -2c outside I am a Pensioner worked all my life 6 years in the forces paid all my taxes never claimed any sort of a benefit, so I don't qualify for the winter fuel payment, my heating is off as it is food shopping day tomorrow and I have £30 to spend, I know there are many more like me, when I see the RNLI picking up the boat people bringing them to the UK and the tax I have paid used to look after them, makes me feel there is nothing wrong about the way I feel about this Government.
