The real kicker is that the 300 million wood burning stoves are all carbon neutral because burning wood only releases what the tree removed from the atmosphere anyway and a new tree will reabsorb. But the thousands of old, used blades from wind turbines that cannot be recycled are not carbon neutral and end up in landfill, the same for the old solar panels. There is no waste from burning wood, no need for wasted energy to recycle anything, no land fill, no poluted rivers, just new trees needing planting.

Wait a minute, our energy production has been reduced by 60% since the green movement began. All those coal fired and nuclear power stations scrapped in favour of windmills. I would have preferred to keep the coal fired power stations and cleaned the emissions instead of closing them. Smoke scrubbing is possible. The South Koreans are already doing it. Open the coals mines, restart the power stations and chat to the South Koreans about cleaning the smoke. There is supposed to be 800 years of coal beneath our feet. Lets use it.

Energy production, manufacturing and co2 output hasn't changed by 60%, the numbers on a spreadsheet have just been moved overseas. With 800 years worth of coal back in play we would have the oppotunity to become world leaders in clean energy production and manufacturing if we invested in reasearch and technology to use it effectively, but no we just build new Pret a Mange and Starbucks to sevice London and the financial industry.

As I watch this (1510hrs) wind and solar are producing just 7% each of the total demand. Biomass is producing 9% but as we know most of the fuel for that is imported so it’s hardly ‘green’. I got a quote for installing a heat pump based heating system a couple of years back during a major home renovation project and all together including necessary upgrade of insulation and the fact that it needs the entire heating system replaced not just the boiler it was coming in just under £100k and I have the room to easily install all the tanks and other paraphernalia required, what people in small places do I have no idea. Suffice to say I went with a gas boiler. The cost of the stuff they are recommending everyone get is astronomical, you can't just do this piecemeal either, for most UK properties it will be a huge project costing more than most can realistically afford without getting a second mortgage.

So are their vast oil field developments vanity projects paid for by all that excess wind and solar wealth? Or is it the other way around?
