Mauritius has NEVER owned the Chagos Archipelago. It was used by the Arabs, Maldivians, claimed by the Dutch, then Portuguese & taken by the French who put slaves on the islands. They ceded the archipelago to the British in 1814 after they lost in the Napoleonic wars! They are nearer the Maldives 500 km (310 miles) than Mauritius 2,191 km (1,361 miles). Mauritius itself was Dutch (who named it after Maurice, Prince of Orange), then Portuguese, then French, then British (ceded to by the French on losing the Napoleonic wars) becoming an independent in 1968. Surely it's down to the Chaggosians to decide WHICH country THEY want to be run by?🤦‍♀️👎

Ah, I don't watch TV/films etc BUT will have to see A Complete Unknown. Born in the late 50s, I wasn't a Dylan fan initially, though my fiance was (we met in 1972), and Dylan's music grew on me as the years passed.

Er no. He and his clown foreign secretary made a lousy deal, that would cost the British public a lot of money. The base on Chagos is now potentially at risk and the Americans will not let it go ahead. He didn't get Harris as the incoming president and, now, realises that he has to back track.
