This is the third in the series of talks about devotees of Ramana Maharshi who were associated with Palakottu, the sadhu colony adjacent to Sri Ramanasramam. This talk tells the story of Ramanatha Brahmachari, a diminutive figure who caught Bhagavan with his love and who received a full measure of liberating grace in return.
I plan to add English, French, Spanish, German and Italian subtitles to these talks on Sri Ramana Maharshi. I have English transcripts of the talks. If anyone feels inspired to translate them into other languages, other subtitles can be added as well.

Dear David, Thank you so much for taking the time to produce these wonderful videos. They capture the essence of the fascinating lives of Ramana's devotees.

This video is a little challenging to watch, in that Ramanatha Brahmachari is much less grand a figure than many of the other devotees discussed here, and his intense, mole-like gaze is offputting and a little frightening. But when Mr. Godman comes to the end of the story and reads some of Ramanatha Brahmachari's devotional writings, this video entry for me becomes among the most poignant in the series: "...The moment compassionate Ramana came and manifested in my heart, bondage-producing evil karma was destroyed and my direct experience arose... Because the way of redemption reached my heart, true love arose and swallowed me. The transmuting grace of the Sage of Arunachala penetrated my heart in a way that I, a worthless soul without true love, was redeemed completely... the unbroken experience of supreme silence is now arisen."

Thank you so much, Ramana, for giving us these stories through David. David is your beautiful worthy devotee who has helped all of us, your devotees, to know more of your physical time here with your followers, who were around to bring remembrance of you in the body, which helps us in our quest by your grace, to eliminate the mind-ego. Praise be to you David, and all blessing from our beloved lord guru Ramana, who delivers us from the darkness of maya to the eternal light of the Self. Om Shanti, shanti, shanti.

I was saddened to read that this saintly person had been pushed to the ground by a bully and threatened. Ramanatha Brahmachari did not respond with an iota of malice, only kindness. A beautiful Teaching.

Thank you very much Sri Godman. The presentation, interspersed with rare photographs, is very unique in the sense that we would not get the real pulse of the events by reading book as much as we get from listening to you. We could see that a great planning has gone into these recordings.

Thank you David!These videos are very inspiring for me and your work and devotion is priceless.You could have been acting as the self made gurus who spent some time with the masters,as you did(and not just met,but wrote books about them) but in stead of that you "just" telling these amazing stories.Your role is very important, especially in the current "guruflood".

Thank you so much for all your writings ,talks and these videos. Isnt there an incident when, once during Girivalam with Bhagwan, it was decided that all would speak one after the other on some religious topic,and Ramanatha was the first to start and he spoke extempore and very lucidly for almost the whole duration of Girivalam?

When Ramanatha Brahmachari announced his intention to go to the beach to make salt in support of Gandhi, I appreciate that Bhagavan was only teasing him and probably wished to protect him, but in defence of Ramanatha I feel obliged to state the obvious: Gandhi was not exactly a tall, muscular man himself, and he was well known for practising and advocating nonviolent disobedience.

Hi David, After watching some videos on papji where he stresses that no effort or technique is needed only silence. Did Bhagavan ever give on instruction on this, its just I have read of saints who practiced Kriya yoga everyday to become self realised. Is it just various routes towards knowing the eternal. Many thanks for replying, love all your videos, just amazing source's of inspiration. John.

Hello John, Though 2 years old replying to your question...Bhagavan's teaching was primarily Self Inquiry. Who is the I ? ....papaji also followed the same path of self inquiry. The self inquiry is the direct path and is advocated as Mahavakiyas in the various Upanishads (last section of the Vedas). Kriya Yoga also is an efficient method and is like taking a plane and the focus is on cleaning out your karmas and muck freeing up the path for enlightenment. In the self inquiry the small I ( your ego i.e. represented by the mind, body etc) drops and gets destroyed by the " Big I " (the supreme self or Brahman). The self inquiry method is the super sonic plane....relatively speaking....Kriya Yoga also needs a quitened mind to make progress. Best wishes in your journey. Great question!

i admit i didn't read books on Bhagavan, which could contain an answer but i wonder how many meals a day were served in the asram and how many meals a day Bhagavan himself would have
@David_Godman

BayanTheOne Breakfast lunch and dinner were served in the ashram dining room. Bhagavan would go there with everyone else and eat all three.

David Godman thank you David, indeed his body doesn't look too skinny on the photos i asked in order to compare his diet with the Buddhist Vinaya rules, which prescribe only one meal a day perhaps since Bhagavan was already a saint he didn't require following specific ascetic practices, but instead followed his nature, governed by karma and this fact gives some indication that having one meal a day isn't necessarily a natural inclination of a saint or an integral trait of one

BayanTheOne There were periods in his life when he rarely ate, and sometimes when he was sick he stopped eating for a while, but for the last few decades of his life, he ate like any normal person.

maclaireful Ramana Maharshi only gave public certificates of enlightenmenttop two of hios devotees - to his mother and to the cow Lakshmi, both of who were women. Later in the series I will tell the story of Mudaliar Patti, a woman who was one of Sri Ramana's outstanding devotees. In the film on Lakshmi I also did a segment on Keerai Patti, a woman who looked after Sri Ramana for many years while he was living on the hill.

maclaireful I forgot to mention Saradamma, a woman who attained liberation through complete surrender to her Guru, Lakshmana Swamy. I wrote about both of them in a book entitled No Mind - I am the Self.Both of them have a strong connection with Arunachala.
