the difference is now managers give their wants/needs to succeed on the pitch to others to do the work for them. Ferguson was the last manager in UK to have all power and because the Glazers did not have a system in place before he left, United's board and management structure has turned into a complete mess where others have grown. Ten hag would have drawn up a list of people he would want to work with, with back ups for rejections, that's really about it for management involvement in staff now unless they come with their own specific team of coaches which is usually sorted out when they first sign anyway
