I have now made five sets of these, 10 chairs and five tables. I’ve made them out of 5/4 x 6“ northern white cedar I found that I have a significant amount of scrap material and that has led me to alter my design by using the scrap material in the finished product. For example, Instead of the chair seat and back slats, all being the same width I have alternated them with additional narrow slats. This variation is pleasing to the eye. I’ve made similar use of scrap to alternate the slats on the table top as well. In addition, I made many extra corbels, the trim piece that goes under the chair arm, and I have used those to support some extra width on the table. Finally, I added some of the scrap to the lower frame of the table to create a shelf for knickknacks, a planter, or perhaps a citronella candle.

I always enjoy Jim's easy going personality with his incredible knowledge of woodworking. I love this plan as it really looks nice and it might be simple enough for me to try (when lumber goes back down in cost). Thanks Wood mag and Jim for another handy project.

I like this a lot. I would like to make the table one that four of these adirondacks could sit around. Just adjust the measurements?

Peter, international privacy laws are too difficult to keep up with so, sadly, we prohibit most countries outside of US/Canada from purchasing.

Is it possible to make an Adirondack chair out of marine grade laminated wood? Where I live it is almost impossible to find suitable natural wood but I do have access to laminate, and it would also be MUCH cheaper. Can I use 3/4" sheets cut to size and thoroughly painted?

This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. kzbin.infoUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.

Just a quick question on your thickness. Plans call for 1" thick. Well, as we all know, if you buy a "1x6", it's usually 3/4 x 5 1/2. Are you using true 1" thick cedar? If so, for me, the only place I can get true 1" thick wants $15+ a BF.. Would you say using clear white pine then covering with spar varnish would hold up well? Like to build stuff, but $15 a bf is out of my price range realistically.

I had same question, I've built the chair Norm Abram builds, & I used 1x pine, it worked fine

These full size templates that are linked here are not full size templates they are printed out on 8.5" x 11" computer paper and then they charge you like it's card stock. Called customer service and the lady said they only have some in true full size form and they can't specify on their website. So you must call to see if you are getting a true full size template or if it is just printed out on computer paper.
