08 APR 2023 7:00 AM This is the best instructional build video for this type of chair. I have built 36 of these chairs over the last three years. I made templets for the upper & lower back supports as well as the seat rail and arm templets , it makes quick work of the whole process. After I built 8 or 10 chairs everything was inculcated to memory and now they're quick and very easy to build. The only problem I have experienced is that I have to stop doing all these "FREE" chairs for friends and family. If you like spending your time in the work shop, these chairs are a blast to build ! My thanks to Chris Marshall for making this very clear, concise, easy to follow video. With Kind Regards, Pete Conlogue Chesapeake, Virginia

My father just turned 80. He and I enjoy working together on different projects like small engine repair and woodworking. His back gives him problems and thus he has trouble standing for as long as we tend to be in the shop. We do have some chairs, but as you mentioned, they can be challenging to get out of as one ages. This chair seem to be just what we need for him to be able to sit down and also be able to get back on his feet easily. I am a Woodworkers Journal subscriber and after seeing this video, I remember seeing this chair in a past edition. I will have to go look for it now. Thanks for the great video.

I have built one set of these chairs and they came out great. One thing I want to point out there are few spots where the written instructions are not complete when compared to the video. One is on the critcal cross braces the written plans do not indicate you measure from the top edge. The other is when you cutting the back supports. The written directions does not include that you draw your parallel line to the edge 2" on the lower and 2 1/4" on the upper back support. If you follow the video step for step you will not make any mistakes. The spacing of the seat slats and back slats is not covered in the plans either. As other have said it would be helpful to have the plans include a material list not just the cut list. All that said, thanks Chris for all the help I really enjoyed this project.

A friend of mine has lupus . When we go to a restaurant she asks for a couple of thick "phone books " to sit on . Try finding those now . Some places have reams of print paper that help . She saw a chair very similar to this at one of the Amish places that sell outdoor furniture . Did a " KZbin " search , and Voila' .

This video was well done. I appreciate that it was done in thorough fashion, and with properly spoken English. Thank you. One question that I have if you do not mind, actually two, would be how much time does it take an experienced woodworker who has done this project several times, such as yourself, and how much time for someone who is more say, halfway between the beginner and intermediate stages, such as myself? I am deciding upon which high adirondack chair plan to build for sale to others, and am just wondering how much time goes into building one. Thanks:)

First, I'll add my congratulations for an excellent instructional video. Very well done. However, I would like to see a follow-up video created that address one of the main concerns that has come up repeatedly and that being the straightness of the seat back. I am getting ready to make a set of these and let's face it, Mahogany isn't inexpensive. In theory increasing the angle of the inside cut on the upper and lower back supports should "help" but I'm not convinced that it will fully resolve it. Anyone else have the same concerns? I almost feel that you would have to extend the arms and locate the upper support further back to achieve an increased angle for the seat back. I'd be interested in other thoughts and comments.

I completely agree The back needs to recline about 11 degrees or more, much like the low Adirondack chairs.
@charliebygolly97485 жыл бұрын
I angled the seat, dropping the back one inch from the front, that made the chair more comfortable to sit in. I also changed the back angle to 10 degrees. That made for a very comfortable chair.
@magrinney5 жыл бұрын
Charlie Bygolly exactly, I did pretty much the same. I raised the front of the seat a half inch and lowered the back of the seat a half inch. Also, I gave the back a better angle. What a difference‼️

I made these from rough sawn cedar earlier this year. It was a challenging build for me but I got through it. For me, there was tons of re-sawing and milling, so that might have made my build more tedious than using pre-milled lumber and the glue-ups. I love the result! My wife has her coffee and breakfast out on the front deck everyday with the chairs. I slapped together a tall table to put between them rather than the connecting table in the plans. My only criticism of the design is that the seat backs are too upright IMHO. I would increase the angle a couple degrees if I were making again or recommending to someone else, other than that, they are great!
@littledsurf2 жыл бұрын
how would you increase the angle to get a more reclined position for the backs. I'm looking to make these very soon
@littledsurf2 жыл бұрын
10 degrees?
@michaelchapman69252 жыл бұрын
@@littledsurf 10 degrees would probably be good. As it is they are maybe 2 or 3 degrees, not much at all. “Regular” Adirondacks have way too much of an incline for these and frankly I don’t like being that laid back. I would find a chair that’s comfortable for you and try to determine the angle and use that… trust me, you will be happier. This was a good build, just the angle too steep!

Definitely, but I probably wouldn't use construction 2 x 4's. I used a variety of woods because I've painted mine as I think paint holds up better outdoors. I have built 4 sets of these for myself and each of my three kids.
