Maarjamäe is a place in Tallinn's Pirita district.
It was named after the Maarjamäe (Marienberg) castle, completed in 1874.

Maarjamäe forest and Lillepi park are located in Maarjamäe settlement.

@@tiina777 hhhmmmm..... "Different". Driving lanes are generally wider. Arriving in Estonia, then I sense claustrophobia that the autos next to ours are too close. And also generally tighter / sharper / more abrupt turns in Estonia. Country roads.... in the USA they are usually following a grid pattern.... very much NOT grid pattern in Estonia. On our most recent trip to Estonia, then I actually drove in the European continent for the first time ever. We were outside of Tallinn sight seeing in another town, my wife hands me the auto key, says "All right, please go back to fetch the auto, and pick us up." I managed to not crash and not get a ticket! 😎 Cross walk rules are stricter in Estonia... once during that first trip I spotted someone just approaching a crosswalk, AND QUICKLY CORRECTLY STOPPED for them! The neighborhood street we live on should be quiet. Rude drivers from outside our neighborhood like to cut into our neighborhood as they see a traffic light at the end which is a main road. Such drivers think they can beat time by cutting into our quiet neighborhood, then exit onto the busy state road without use of a traffic signal FASTER than having not cut through and simply used the traffic light that is at the end of that more major street. 🤯 So I have suggested to neighbors that we solve that problem "The Estonian Way!" kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJLJeWSvg5l5qbs And of course I also suggest using this other method: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGrYl5eVZsRrsKs I always exit our neighborhood via that same side street others used to enter our neighborhood, and go to the traffic light other drivers seek to avoid. Oh, once a couple of years ago, a DHL delivery truck turned left onto the busy main road from the end of our road.... then a second or so later BOOM!!!!! and a big cloud of dust! A construction truck of concrete workers hit the DHL delivery truck and pushed it quite a ways across the large five lane road. I took that as a reminder why I NEVER exit our neighborhood onto the big five lane road without selecting a street with a traffic signal! Around Tallinn, I prefer someone else to be driving or to use public transportation. I ever keep my Tallinn Transport green ticket card in the pocket of my Winter jacket.... "Can never be sure when I might end up in Estonia, so I keep myself prepared." I have a paper wrapped around it with some phone numbers written down, so if someone stops me, demands what I am doing in Estonia, then I can show the paper, have them call, and have someone in Estonian explain I am allowed to be in Estonia. (Never has happened that I need it.... but I am prepared! 😎)

@Ginger_Hangout: Yes a LOVELY neighborhood. It was started to be built after WW-II. So during Soviet occupation. Very distinct from each other house plans.... so not all coming from the same cookie cutter. And even there was a motor cycle race track using the main city streets! "Pirita-Kose-Kloostrimetsa Circuit" en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pirita-Kose-Kloostrimetsa_Circuit My first visit to Estonia was Summer 1997, right during the race. I have memories of waking up to the sounds of super bike engines at 03:00 through the open windows of the bedroom! Our grandparents were very blessed to be able to purchase land and build their own house. Many very special memories attached to that house. It is built of brick construction, covered with stucco surface, and red clay roof tiles. "Exactly what a European house should be." 🏡
