Quite a different experience compared to the Russian KZbinr Sailor nom, that moved to Serbia a couple of years ago. She was there about a month before you, and called Užice a hidden gem. Her family also found some excellent food, and she meant it was really good. I suppose one can strike gold, or miss it, in any town or city. I wish you better luck next time! I recommend you to go to our parts of the country, Kladovo. Beautiful nature, loads of history on the way and around it. Lots of Romanian tourists from across the Danube. Good food and excellent wineries.

Yes I messaged her recently, she is a foodie and loved the Komplet Lepinje. There was also a guy called David Ostrovski who made a video saying he wanted to move there 😂, I really don't know why. Then again I was mostly on my own in Uzice which is a different experience. Overall, apart from the dramatic scenery I've been to much more pleasant towns in Serbia of a similar size.
@emilpopovic6167Ай бұрын
@@TallTravels yes, David! I really liked his videos. He spoke more in two minutes than you in a whole video 😀. And somehow he managed to keep the talk interesting and entertaining all the time. He retired from KZbin last year. You would find Kladovo more interesting than Užice.
@TallTravelsАй бұрын
@emilpopovic6167 Maybe because he's gay, they are very chatty 😂. He also left Serbia saying he was sick of shaven headed 'toxicly masculine Serbian men' and where did he move to...... Poland! 😂
@emilpopovic6167Ай бұрын
@@TallTravels I suspected that he was. He quite fitted the stereotype. Poland was logical, due to him receiving citizenship there thanks to his ancestry. Several British KZbinrs, including you, prefer spending as little time as possible there. There’s another Russian, Attic Life, who interviews foreigners that have permanently moved to Serbia, including a Londoner. They never looked back, hope you’ll do the same. Really interesting interviews.

@emilpopovic6167 I really like Serbia, it's my back up plan if things don't work out in Russia. I hope to apply for residency in Russia. I lived in Serbia from 2007 to 2011 on and off, but then moved to Ukraine where I spend most of the next 10years.

Well, I'm sure if you live there you will know all the places to go. But the place seemed to be missing some spirit of other cities I've been to. Also if you like the great outdoors then the city could be perfect.
@orfanelinАй бұрын
Your apartment was far away from the city. It would be better to find some place inside the city, so you can feel the pulse of the city. You can go to the tourist organisation in the downtown and they will give you instructions of where you can go and what to visit. In our city most of the people go outside of the city at weekends because we have most beautiful surroundings in Serbia. Downtown is crowded in late hours.
@TallTravelsАй бұрын
@@orfanelin The reason I stayed outside of the very centre was because there was nothing available in the centre, completely sold out. Now I understand why there is not much tourist accommodation available ;) I left on the Monday morning when the students were back and it was busier, nevertheless far from being a vibrant place.

I have visited every city in Serbia with more than 50k inhabitants and Uzice is one of the most vibrant. I was in the city centre 15 minutes ago and hundreds of people are walking on the main square and surrounding streets. For example, people from every part of Serbia coming here to eat and you say you cannot find a place to eat. I really don’t know why you didn’t ask anyone ? :)

Drunk Travels :) Uzice is a hub and a historical place by itself. But it has always been same as you saw, even in 80s... Time stopped there after WW2. Everyone goes to Zlatibor, even locals, for food or nightlife, it's like 15-30 mins away. You get born in Uzice, and then you move. Or stay home, buy cheap car and go to Zlatibor for work and daytime. Tara is more beautiful, but is just nature. And yes, betting shops should be banned, some of opposition parties are asking the same. So far they got them away from perimeter of schools.

ITs similar in Kragujevac,in 90s on weekends main street would close for traffic and you could not pass how many people were and all bars were next to each other , clubs were everywhere and full always ,now in weekends is mostly dead. Student parties then were superb ,like in Faculty of Economics in big main hall was party every second Wednesday always full with 2000 people while every second Wednesday in Faculty of Law which is just next building ,also 2000 people every single time.Also in another facultyes and always totaly full ,now NOTHING ,they were banned like 15 years ago in all facultyes . Times in 90s in Kragujevac were economically very tough but town was so much more live then now

Also, town of Trebinje and Nevesinje in Herzegovina(Bosnia and Hertzegovina) and some other parts of Balcan. Uzice is more Serbian then 98% of Serbia actually. Love you mate but currently don't have 40 minutes to watch this video - however - I do have an idea what else you could be doing in Užice other than walkabouts 😂 - given the previous name of the city, would you consider an idea to get in touch with the Mayor of Užice and with the executive manager of the City's cemetary to enquire if they'd be willing - as a measure of absolutely last resource, if noone else wants it - take care of a certain corpse about to be digged up in Belgrade and re-house it in Užice? Croats should really be the ones to take it, but they're keeping awfully quiet about it; Mayor of Sarajevo said she wants it ASAP, but then the Bosnian Ambassador to the United Nations had reminded the enthusiastic Lady that Tito's motorway of "Brotherhood and Unity" never actually touched the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and consequently there is simply no suitable road in existence by which to transport the much reveered corpse from Belgrade to Sarajevo. Most unpleasant circumstances. Maybe Užice could step in and relieve the pressure on the world's finest waterpolo star that ever played either waterpolo or politics? 😊

It's southern Serbia. It's poorer part of the country, just like northern Montenegro. Unfortunately southern Serbia and northern Montenegro got a very complicated economical situation. Nature is absolutely FANTASTIC in northern Montenegro and southern Serbia. Belgrade and northern Serbia and Podgorica and Montenegrin seaside are a different story. Majority of Serbia is absolutely a wasteland of cities that don't have ANYTHING URBAN about them. Belgrade, Novi Sad, Subotica and maybe Niš will have many things to offer. The REST is mostly just one big tragedy.
