In fact, the best Serbian beer is Valjevsko pivo. You are lucky to be in Valjevo because Valjevsko pivo is hard to find outside the city of Valjevo. You also have a very good kafana Bora with excellent specialties that you can try. Valjevski region is best known for the nearby village of Lelić and Bishop Nikolaj Velimirović, whose books and words/teachings have been translated into many languages including English.

My cruise photographer, Ivan, was from Valjevo. Remember it as the city where the high speed train slowed down on the way to Uzice. (my favorite city in Serbia). From there I went to Prijepolje which has a Vlade Divac museum. He was a favorite player when he was with the Sacramento Kings.

Bro, you missed the best parts. Valjevo is known for Muselimov konak (place where Serbian dukes were held captive and later executed by Ottomans on white bridge on river Kolubara) starting the first Serbian uprising against Ottomans, Tesnjar (you visited it), river Gradac is favorite spot for people of Valjevo to go in nature especially upper river parts (but beware of snakes), near Valjevo Vojvoda Zivojin Misic stopped the Austro Hungarian troops and defeted them , it was first Allied victory in WW1. Small, nation od 2 900 000 people defeated superpower of 53 000 000 people. Stevan Filipovic is marked as a first person to start the rebelion against Germans in Serbia in WW2, you missed the Nenadovic tower, there are few very nice looking ortodox monasteries around Valjevo, you missed some nice restaurants where you could try our Duvan cvarci (unique thing to Valjevo region where food is made from pig fat it is very tasty), Valjevo steak, Karadjordjeva steak, cevapi, kajmak. Best regards from Valjevo.

Are you still in Valjevo? You must walk along river Gradac. It is most beautiful nature in Serbia. On that walk you visit Ćelije Monastery and visit Etno restoran 'Skok po Skok'. I can guide you if you like. Valjevo is most beautiful city when you know where to walk and explore

Valjevo isnt touristic town, it is a reason why people stearing at you, because you speak englsih and hold the camera. 11:54 ŠNAJDER-ШНАЈДЕР it means TAYLOR on Serbian and German. As you know, Serbia is a country constantly divided between two empires, two civilisations, even today, that question is actuall for Serbia, Russia-east or Europe. In history, Turkey or Austria-Germans. So, influence of both is visible on every step. ТАШНА, it means HANDBAG. 12:03 Some very famous historical movies from 19. cent. was maked in that street. It is how Serbia look in 19 cent. or earlier. 12:12 hoouse is old 250 years alsmot. Street isnt abandooned, as i sayed, main purpose is movie making. 30:40 thats the case in whole Serbia, even, i belive in big part of Belgrade... Belgrade is full of foreigners this days(tourists and foreign workers), also gypsies from Kosovo. This is a reason why some parts of the city are not safe to left your bycicle unlkocked on the streets. 0:04 ha ha ha It is not high speed rail,it is ordnary very slow serbian rail, average speed 50-60km per hour. Onlyy one high speed line exists in Serbia at the moment. Belgrade-hungarian border. Around 200km lenght, speed is 200km per hour. In future two or tree years high speed line between Belgrade and Niš, 250km leght, should be finished. That train si ordinary Stadler Flirt 2 train, max speed is 160km per hour. SOKO service consist of 5 trains at the moment. 3 Stadler KISS doubledecker high speed trains, 200km per hour, operating between Belgrade and Novi Sad and 2 chinese CRCC high speed trains, 200km per hour, they should start to operate on line between Belgrade and Subotica. Maybe started alredy. 2 new Stadler KISS trains should arrive soon. Serbian railways mostly using ordinary stadler FLIRT 2 and FLIRT 4 electric trains, 53 units, 35 f2+18 f4. And russian DMU 701 trains, 30 units, max speed 120km per hour, they using oil, not electricity. 23:16 ha haha. PEDER, it means GAY in Serbian. SMRD is shorten from SMRAD, it means someone who smell very bad as a person and at all.

Well, there is the catch with old part of cities in Serbia, and why they look derelict :) They look like that becasue they are PROTECTED :D They are so much hardly protected by government that you are not allowed to change anything and not even to paint fasade without special permission from local administration for protection of cultural inheritance, and than you can hire only certified people that are versed in old crafts to do it for you. The procedure is so long and so expensive that many owners of protected old buildings simply don't have money (and mostly nerves) to bother with that, and they simply let them go ruin down... And why not sold it to someone who would take care for it, you ask? Becasue everyone who see mark "building protected as historical geritage" runs away as far as possible, they dont want it even for free, because of reasons stated above. So, there you go, protected historical parts of towns are protected from everything , including maintainance, and then you get that combination of enthusiast that will give everything to protect their inheritance, and those who could not care less to get into half-year procedures and huge money expances just to paint one wall...
