@@bgrod3205 That was an observation. Disrespectful as we've come to expect from ingrates who pour into this country with a middle finger. The land is not and was not Mexican land. We’ve still got the receipt to prove it. And no, Mexicans are not Native Americans. It has become fashionable like wearing Botas picudas mexicanas for the low IQ-aggrieved to frame their lack of reason by attacking the legitimacy of whichever adult reasoning blocks the progress of their delusional objectives. Amazing that anti-U.S. carnival barkers have this dopey sentiment while standing on U.S. territory. It's goofy folklore by those who don't even know their own history. I'll remind you that the lands claimed by Spain in their search for gold (can we all say Coronado?) and later ceded to Mexico after 1821 belonged to the Apache, Pueblo, and Comanche. California, nor any of the Southwest was native Mexican soil. Reconquista is fueled by false information in Latino revisionist history books. They read as if American forces invaded California when it was ruled by Mexico. In fact, Mexico's governance of California had ended early, and Mexican rule had been very brief. In 1842, Mexico tried to sell the ungovernable and unsettled California to the King of Prussia. His ambassadors in London and Washington urged purchase, but the King declined the offer on the advice of a famous explorer, Alexander von Humboldt. In 1846, after the Mexican-American War broke out, the U.S. Navy arrived in Monterey on July 1 and hoisted the American flag. It was a timely arrival. A British fleet showed up on July 6 -- too late. The British had planned to seize California as a means of collecting Mexican debts. In sum, Mexican rule was brief, much interrupted, and unwelcome. California was destined to become British or American. It was never native Mexican soil. None of the Southwest was ever Mexico. It belonged to the Apache and Comanche Indians which devastated Mexico. Mexicans that dispute the U.S. ownership of the Southwest states confuse the matter of Mexico's independence from Spain, which it did not get until 1821, which is just 25 years before the Mexican-American War. This means that Mexicans are supporting a claim made by Spain, not Mexico as owners of the Southwest. This is a claim made over what were unconquered Indian lands. Mexico's control over what is now the U.S. Southwest was non-existent. They had no ability to administer the area of land. And as Mexicans might recognize, Spain claimed all of Mexico. The Spanish had a tiny population in the disputed territories, and in the territory that is now Texas. Mexico invited the U.S. to settle the territories and fight the Indians which were destroying its population. Next, Napoleon invaded Spain, breaking Spain's grip on Mexico. Mexicans did not even come as far as Tabac until the U.S. Army build military forts. It was too treacherous for them. Josiah Gregg, who was with the U.S. Army in Northern Mexico, wrote that "the whole country from New Mexico to the borders of Durango were unpopulated." Haciendas and ranchos were abandoned or destroyed. The Mexican government offered the U.S. Army to take Texas and create a buffer. The U.S. eventually defeated all of the Indian tribes. The Mexicans did not. That brings up the real question of control and ownership of the Southwest as Mexico lost against the Indian tribes. If it were not for the U.S. Army, the Indian raids into Mexico would have eventually destroyed the Mexican population. It is hard to stop laughing at your ludicrous distortion. Texas fought its own war of independence from Mexico, prevailing at the battle of San Jacinto on April 21, 1836. A fiercely independent republic, Texas joined the United States nine years later (1845). Mexico initially asked the U.S. to settle Texas because they could not stop the Indians from destroying them. There were significant issues separating the United States and Mexico. President Polk sent an emissary to Mexico City negotiate. Mexico refused to discuss the multitude of issues, instead provoking a skirmish across the border. The United States, armed to the teeth, accepted Mexico's invitation. And, by the terms of the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo the United States also paid for all the damage to Mexican private property during the war, in addition to the $15 million for the territory that Mexico sold to the United States. We paid $15 million for 529,000 square miles for Mexico, a 56% premium over what we paid France for the Louisiana Purchase (also $15 million) for 827,000 square miles. Mexicans forfeited any claim when they first sold it and second, abandoned it. It's much easier to walk into another country knowing that it is civil, then deem that country your enemy. But eventually like your ancestors, you too will get your opportunity to experience the American resolve...
