You have to be one hell of a drummer to have a room full of drummers give you a standing ovation. :)

It amzing the feel he gets by playing those doubles on the snare - ghost notes really - with the left hand while he's playing the crashes with the right....

One of the most creative drummer ever .. His own unique style with the left hand give him the abilities to groove like magic, guys like simon phillips take the drumming to another level, and the best part about him that his solos are so different from each anther if u notice and listen well that every time simon creat a solo it has its own independence, not like most of the drummers and that's really hard to achieve ..seriously it took years

What impeccable timing............feeling and hitting the 1 just comes so naturally around the kit. I love how Simon demonstrates the open handed style so flawlessly. Saw Simon twice............w Jeff Beck and boy did he whip out that incredible beat on Star Cycle. Love to guest host him and Protocol in Oakland at Yoshi’s up close and personal.

Sorry, there are errors in the setup-description: First, the gladiator has no 6,5-depth, the Gladiator is 14 x 5,5,. Second: There is already no Gladiator-Snare in this video: It's the Monarch-Snare as the mainsnare, the 12' Pageant left-side and a unknown 8' or 10' Snare on the right side.

I've always enjoyed watching him work. It's a shame the video was chopped up, we missed his natural flow through.

Phenomenal dynamics as usual. I'd be really interest to know how much of the structure of the solo is made up on the fly or whether Simon sets it all out beforehand.
@RNotenboom8 жыл бұрын
He said it in interviews, he thinks a lot about it beforehand but then he starts and it turns out completely different

That tom and ghost note trick had too many repetitions. The “jazz” feel gets quickly interrupted with hard slams, super fast and non musical linear fills, and off tempo hits. Going back to Dave Weckls videos. This is too clumsy and unmusical.
