This 5.5” x 14” snare is crafted of 1.2mm hammered steel shell. The hammered process adds tonal complexity, depth, and dryness to the sounds typically associated with TAMA's steel shell, which are bright and penetrating. The more complex tones are generated from the way sound waves asymmetrically reflect off the hammered shell texture.

Thank you Tama for recording all these different S.L.P. snares one by one. In my 29 years of playing the skins I personally didn't keep track of how many snares I've owned. Up until this very moment I was positive that my Ludwig acrolite was my favorite snare drum EVER. But after watching this video four separate times and listening to this hand hammered Steel S.L.P. it just might be Love at First listen. I will be heading down to my local GC to play one for myself. If it sounds and plays like I believe it will, I'll be one hell of a happy man.

I, Go The sound is amazing. So close to this video's sound I was stoked. Played it high and low. At the cost there's no losing with this SLP Steel HH. way to go Tama!

Another SLP home run! Fantastic sounding snare drum and killer playing by Joe. I have the SLP Power Maple, SLP 13x6.5 Sonic Steel and the Classic Dry Aluminum. This will soon be added to my SLP collection!

Got me one of these and a Vintage Maple / Poplar last week, and can't stop playing them everywhere - You blew the roof with these S.L.P. and Soundworks series, Tama!!!

This was the first “New” snare I ever bought. Beautifully balanced and fits every genre, its perfect. Its a very similar hammered pattern to that of the MP melody master metal snare so its a more affordable alternative to that sound. Its super responsive, feels great to play with a Remo controlled sound head. Nice buzz and not hard to manage with kit vibrations.

How does it compare to an Acrolite? I don't find mine cuts enough live
@FanaticDrummer

@@jdrumz321ify Its a thinner shell, but still cuts for me. It should also be mic’d up, then theres no issue cutting live. Think its more of a mix issue than a snare issue. You can crank the tuning pretty high on these with looser snare wires to get that MP crack. Its not as thick of a shell so wont be as loud but its good. I actually saw Anika Niles starting to use this snare now, she used it in several live scenarios.

The tama slp line is well designed and thought out. I purchased a vintage poplar maple and a vintage hammered steel. I like versitility and full sounds from my snares. They both sound great at many tunings and are real work horses. Thank you!

Been looking for a metal snare for playing gigs and just ordered this Tama Hammered Steel snare after listening to some demos. It sounds fantastic and will look great with my Tama Silverstar kit with gray sparkle wrap. It came down to this or a Ludwig Supraphonic.

Very sweet and neutral sound (between wood and metal): beautiful and hyper versatile. Steel is very underrated because of low cost (like aluminum). Very comfortable to play too (less chaotic uncontrolled rebounds than hard woods, for rolls especially). Perhaps my favorite with mahogany (if you don't want brillant, resonant and explosive sound on snare, however). Ideal for ghosting softer and clear dry rim shots (contrasted, detailed, detached), not too loud and ringing. The hammering gives a richest and drier sound, that are lacking in metal, especially steel , but not as chaotic as natural organic wood fiber structure. I'm not sure that aluminum can support that process without becoming dangerously fragile.
